Joey Gallo belts his 29th home run, and fourth in the last three games, to drive in three runs, which was the difference-maker in a 4-1 Rangers win over the Twins.

Day three After Darvish, and the Rangers are having one of their best runs of the year, going 2-1 in those three Darvishless games.

Last night, A. J. Griffin came off the D.L. and absolutely dominated, giving up just two hits and one run in six innings, to improve to 5-2 on the year.

With the win the Rangers are now four games under .500, a position they have been in only ten times this season.

If the Rangers can keep up this incredible post-Darvish pace, they would win 36 of their next 54 games, good for 88 wins, and a probably wild card slot.

All the Rangers have to do is win two out of every three games they play from here on out. Without Yu Darvish.

They’re off to a great start.

TODAY’S GAME:

Martin Perez (5-9, 5.13) vs. Bartolo Colon (2-9, 7.70)
Game time: 7:10

How the Rangers hit against Colon.
How the Twins hit against Perez.

Speaking of Yu Darvish …..He has his Dodgers debut tonight. The game will be shown in Japan tomorrow morning. πŸ˜€

  • JacobMcCandles

    Perez…….major disappointment

    • dearmidol

Yes he is. On a better team, he would be in the bullpen. He should not be higher than a number five starter.

      • elkaba

We break them. We own them.

        • GoRangers23

This reminds me of what I used to tell Mr Go when the babies were asleep. YOU wake him, YOU take him! 😁

          • elkaba

            LOL, yep.

          • FlappingGums

            LoL!! πŸ˜€

  • Tony Howell

I thought griffin look real good last night, if he wasn’t so injure prone he might be a pretty good pitcher for us. Thought Gee had a lot of movement on his fast ball and a very good breaking ball. Wish he could have done it here . Must be coaching

    • dearmidol

Griffin could very well be a candidate for the rotation next year. He is cheap, so that helps. And when he has pitched, he’s been pretty good. He said he came back too soon last season, which explains his bad numbers after he came off the DL.

  • elkaba

    Happy Ryan/Ventura fight day everyone!

    • GoRangers23

      Ha!

    • Rod Harper

Ahh, sweet memories! Nolan’s second job as a cattle rancher paid off in that scuffle! Hence the headlock on Ventura! πŸ™‚

    • JacobMcCandles

Have not read the article but two thoughts…..if you watch RV,,,,about halfway you can tell his heart is not in it, which means the fight is lost b4 it starts.

Second, they used to show the fight on all Chisox games when RV is managing,,,and Ryan told Chuck Morgan to stop it…class act….the org lost a lot when Nolan went South.

      • elkaba

IMO Nolan went South long before he left the organization.

    • FlappingGums

Good article/list at that link! Thank you Elk! πŸ™‚

  • dearmidol

A lot of negative talk on MLB Network Radio toward the Astros and their unwillingness to make a deal because they didn’t want to trade prospects. Called them scared and short sighted. If you have a chance to win a World Series, you take it. You have absolutely no idea what next year will bring. And what do you need all those prospects for when you already have a great player at those positions? Look at how arrogant the Nationals were when they sat Strausburg. They thought it would happen every year, and it doesn’t.

  • GoRangers23
    • FlappingGums

Thank you for these pictures Go! πŸ˜„

      • GoRangers23

        You’re welcome! 😁

  • possumrld

So Martin Perez looks for a “rebound”.against the twins tonight? or so says the headlines on the Rangers website. The problem is, Perez seems to always be “looking to rebound”. Yes, he has had some good starts. But to me Perez seems like he is what he is going to be. which is just good enough to make us hopeful for more and for better from Perez.
Perez is very reminiscent to me of how Derek Holland used to constantly tantalize us all into thinking he could be ace material. But then after a great start would come the “Bad Holland”, And the “Bad Holland” showed up way too often.
But Perez doesn’t have quite the “stuff” Holland had. So I think he needs a better breaking ball, or to add another effective pitch of some kind in order to ever hope to become a premium pitcher.
In the meantime we can probably look to settle for a 4.57 to a 5.25 ERA pitcher, who seems like he is always just on the verge of being better. ..

    • dearmidol

At this point in his career, he is what he will be. A stop gap.

  • FlappingGums

I liked the applause from the Twins fans last night the first time Adrian Beltre got up to bat! πŸ˜€

  • GoRangers23

Have you guys seen the dance off that went on during a rain delay between the bullpen guys of the Diamondbacks and the Cubs. It’s hilarious! This is only some of it. I hope this works!

    • GoRangers23

Woops, it posted the wrong video. The other one is actually funnier.

    • elkaba

THAT was awesome. Baseball needs a whole lot more of that!

      • GoRangers23

There are more that are even funnier, but I can’t get them to post.

        • elkaba

That one’s got great music, but I like the bobsled one a lot, too.

          • GoRangers23

The bobsled one has me so tickled I’m in tears. Lol. I would dearly love to see some of our guys do this.

          • FlappingGums

I’d like to see our guys do this too! Maybe, just maybe, when the weather cools off a bit. πŸ˜€

      • FlappingGums

        Indeed!! πŸ™‚

    • FlappingGums

Those are so funny! I like the guy in the back that keeps going back and forth across the screen!! LOLA!!! πŸ˜‚

  • GoRangers23
    • GoRangers23

      Yay! It worked!

    • FlappingGums

Thank you for the Lineup TD!! πŸ˜„

    • Rowdy Yates

      WOW!!! A surprise L/R, L/R, L/R, L/R lineup.

      • TD30

        You know Banny, VERY unpredictable

  • SABERMETRICS MASTER

            LOL

        • GoRangers23

I won’t be holding my breath at this point, but it sure would be nice!

    • FlappingGums

Hi Mr. C! Welcome Home! We’ve missed “seeing” you here! πŸ˜€

      • SABERMETRICS MASTER

Hi Flap. Will miss the game tonight again.
Mrs C have a full schedule for me tonight.

        πŸ˜„

        • FlappingGums

          Maybe tomorrow night! πŸ™‚

    • dearmidol

When are you in Dallas area to go to a Rangers game?

      • SABERMETRICS MASTER

Next weekend; but not sure I’ll be able to go to the park.
Would be nice as we are playing Houston.

If I have a chance I will go to the Saturday game.

    • Rowdy Yates

Walked all over Camden Yards Weds night looking for a guy wearing an Andrus jersey to buy you a beer. Since it was pouring rain most of the first few innings I gave up. Now you owe me one!

BTW you missed the one good game Hellickson throws each season!

      • SABERMETRICS MASTER

I read you were on an east coast tour this week

I love Camden Yards and would certainly buy you a beer given the chance to meet you. I was working out of town all week.

I’m blessed by having 4 baseball parks at driving distance. My sister moved to a Pittsburgh this year; but I haven’t had a chance to watch the Pirates yet.

        • Rowdy Yates

Pitts is best stadium in MLB IMO. Just a gorgeous little ballpark. We did DC, Balt, Philly this week.

  • SABERMETRICS MASTER

Martin Perez is only 26 yrs old

He is nothing more than a #5 starter; but at 26, and a 5.5 years career in MLB, he still have time to discover a strike out pitch and step up !

    • dearmidol

      No he won’t.

  • GoRangers23
  • TD30

Nice start, keep it going Maz

  • Rowdy Yates

Musta missed some of Nits’ maturation as an announcer while gone. “Choo easily makes it to 3rd base.” Really? He was on 2nd base when EA hit a ball that was not going to be caught and coasted into 2nd for a double. I’m 72 and woulda scored on that play. On my hands and knees. Please Nitz don’t turn into Raymond.

  • Rowdy Yates

Perhaps Perez isn’t a #5 starter. Maybe #6 starter. In AAA.

    • GoRangers23

      I agree.

  • FlappingGums

I’m glad Chris Gimenez is still in the MLB! After he was with the Indians, I didn’t know where he went. He always seemed like such a really nice guy. πŸ™‚

  • FlappingGums

I might not be posting much yet but it sure is loud here in our den!!!

    • Rowdy Yates

I’ve found groaning and vomiting can make a lot of noise.

      • FlappingGums

        Yeah it does! πŸ˜‰

  • FlappingGums

Perez needs to either pitch or get off the mound and let someone else do the job!

    • Rowdy Yates

ABD will get his chance sooner than later tonight.

  • FlappingGums

Whew! We needed that double play! πŸ˜€

  • FlappingGums

    Let’s go NAP!!!

  • GoRangers23

My husband had a team meeting tonight and he had Fuzzy’s Tacos cater it. There was quite a bit of food left over, so he called me on his way home to tell me he was bringing it home. I wish he had told me earlier, so that I wouldn’t have put a roast in the crock pot. However, we can eat that tomorrow. He brought home an enormous amount of chopped tomatoes, lettuce, cilantro, two kinds of cheese, chips, and more salsa than I have ever seen in one place in my life. There is also retried beans, two different kinds of rice, black beans, and a little beef and chicken and some corn tortillas. I am a very happy lady right now! 😁

    • FlappingGums

      Wonderful!!! πŸ˜€

  • elkaba

Wish we’d have gotten Colon back when we had a chance. He’s like an Energier Bunny! Just keeps going.

    • GoRangers23

He’s fortunate that we didn’t. We would have broken him.

      • elkaba

LOL, Actually I think he’d be immune to breaking, and he might even have helped Dutch and Perez with their “composure” issues.

  • GoRangers23

    I can’t believe it’s already 5-2 in the second inning. 😟😫😑

    • FlappingGums

And we already need our bullpen. πŸ˜•

      • GoRangers23

Perez is a really nice man, and I hate to say this, but it seems like it is similar every time he pitches.

        • FlappingGums

It is always the same & that’s not to say anything about him personally. I think he’s really nice too. Just has pitching issues. 😩

  • FlappingGums

    Good hit Brett!! πŸ˜€

  • FlappingGums

Let’s get some Runs back Rangers!!!

  • GoRangers23

    You GO Maz!

    • FlappingGums

What did Nomar do? I was away from tv.

  • dearmidol

Been out for my daughter’s birthday. I see Martin Perez is having a typical crappy game.

    • FlappingGums

      Yeah. That’s it! πŸ˜•

  • dearmidol

Sorry, but CJ and Dave are being delusional and towing the company line when they say this is a good team.

    It’s not.

Nothing it has done the entire season suggests it’s a good team.

  • Gregor_S

Some guy named Yu Darvish pitched 7 shutout innings for the Dodgers tonight, 3 hits, 10 strikeouts, left leading 6-0.

I’m happy for him. I don’t think the Dodgers complain about strikeouts. They didn’t when Koufax got them and they don’t when Kershaw gets them. I think that now that he’s free of Banny and Brocail and their constant efforts to make him into a different pitcher, one who “pitches to contact” and minimizes his pitching repertoire, and now that he’ll get some run support and have a decent BP behind him, he’ll become the elite pitcher he wanted to be when he left Japan.

    • FlappingGums

I’m really very happy for him – – – especially on getting run support! He’s probably excited or shocked by that!! πŸ˜€

      • Gregor_S

Of course it’s early to say how good he’ll be for the Dodgers but I think he’ll be very good. And that’s why I think there’s no chance the Rangers re-sign him, even if they were to match the Dodgers’ offer (which they won’t). Money is very important to most players but it’s not everything. I think Darvish really wants to prove he can be a standout pitcher in the US and if he feels the Dodgers will give him the best chance to do that that will count for a lot.

        • FlappingGums

As you were typing that I was thinking, “He’s not going to want to come back to Texas.” Great minds really do think alike! πŸ˜„

        • elkaba

This also puts to rest the argument that his problem has been not handling pressure. I’d say the pressure to perform for your new team is even higher than the pressure to perform for the team that’s letting you go.

    • elkaba

Figures. I’m sorry he didn’t get to do that here. I just hope the Rangers can finally learn something from this.

    • Rowdy Yates

Good for him. He always seemed an enigma with the Rangers. Just this yr that he actually looked like a real part of the team and a guy who certainly pitched with consistent tough luck. I hope the Rs can re-sign him but seriously wonder why he’d return to a team that appears yrs away from a WS when his skills will be welcomed and supported by any of numerous quality clubs.

  • elkaba

Maybe they can trade Perez to a team that can fix him…

    • FlappingGums

Well Brocail hasn’t and I don’t think he will.

      • elkaba

We seem to break pitchers, not fix them.

        • FlappingGums

          Isn’t that the truth?!?

  • Rowdy Yates

Just another head scratcher of a game. Perez proving once again he doesn’t belong in a MLB starting rotation even for a bottom dweller like the Rangers. Hung in and gutted it out but 7 earned runs in 4.2 innings is continuing evidence of an arm that hasn’t recovered from TJ surgery. Or what old timers just called ‘dead arm’. Nearly every AB Perez one or more pitches that just have nothing on them.

And the crack announcing team continues to mystify. Grossman makes an excellent catch of a sinking liner in right and Braymond calls it “a really decent catch”. One of the oddest descriptions I’ve ever heard for a catch. Decent: “conforming with generally accepted standards of respectable or moral behavior”; “not likely to shock or embarrass”; “an acceptable standard; satisfactory”. Well, fersure Braymond isn’t a ‘decent’ announcer.

  • azrangerfan

There re players in the game that just don’t need to be over coached. Yu is one of those players. Beltre is one of those players. I think the same might apply to Lucroy and it was pretty evident to me that Lucroy just wasn’t appy here. I believe to a fault that the Rangers coaches want to coach so bad that they can’t just leave a good thing alone. Yu wasn’t some young buck that needed experience when he got here but Banny just wouldn’t leave him alone. Can you imagine the coaches trying to tell Beltre how to go about his game? I don’t believe there is anyway Yu would ever resign with the Rangers. Most other teams will let him do his thing. Ready for Banny to go.

    • Rowdy Yates

And here I’ve always felt the Rangers coaches under Bani don’t coach much. Seems to me there’s lottsa ‘strategerizing’ but not much teaching or coaching the actual basics let along the subtler and finer aspects of the game of major league baseball. And I’m also ready for Bani to go; along with Brocail.

    • Gregor_S

I get the sense the only pitcher they don’t dare mess with is Hamels. I suppose it’s because of his track record with the Phillies before coming here. For some reason they didn’t think Yu’s track record in Japan, where I think he was the #1 pitcher, counts.

    • elkaba

Yep. And the players who need coaching don’t seem to get enough of it. it’s a strange thing they have going. Banister lets them do their own thing, but he messes with the wrong players, I think. Adios to Banny works for me, too.

  • FlappingGums

ABD is up in the bullpen yet Again! They’re going to mess his arm up for sure! Bring him in or let him sit!! Geeez!

  • GoRangers23

I hope we didn’t just break Sano…… Now we are breaking other teams players. 😫

    • FlappingGums

Right?!? I hope we didn’t break him too. 😩

  • GoRangers23

    Why are we challenging that?

    • FlappingGums

Beats me! I think Banister has really lost his last marble now! 😱

  • GoRangers23

I think 44 year old Bartolo Colon would be our number two pitcher, based solely on what I have seen tonight.

    • FlappingGums

He’s still a good pitcher!! I agree with you on him being a #2 in the rotation for us. I don’t know why we didn’t go get him when the Braves let him go recently. Maybe someone thought we have enough quality pitching. (Rolling my eyes.)

  • GoRangers23

People complained about the last Southwest commercial, but in my opinion, this one is a lot worse. I really hope we don’t have to see it 9000 times.

    • FlappingGums

I’ve gotten quick with the mute button on that one. πŸ˜€

    • dearmidol

      This one is miserable.

  • FlappingGums

    Let’s go ABD!!! πŸ™‚

  • GoRangers23

    Good job Rougie!

  • GoRangers23

Elvis, with his third double of the game! Way to GO Elvis!

  • FlappingGums

There’s a Lot of people at the game there tonight!

  • GoRangers23

Good heavens. I think even I might give BC a standing ovation when this game is over. He’s Fantastic! I’m a little jealous, I’m not gonna lie.

    • FlappingGums

I understand and relate to those feelings myself!! πŸ˜€

      • GoRangers23

Here I was thinking that we were facing an almost washed up, DFA’d old pitcher. Boy was I wrong!

        • FlappingGums

          LoL!!!

  • Keith

Just got in from and started following. Interesting that we only have 3 runs. Given the fact that we are usually a homerun or strikeout team I would have expected more runs off of 8 hits. Not surprised though that we only have 3 runs given the fact that a pitcher with an ERA of almost 8 was pitching against us

    • GoRangers23

You wouldn’t even believe that his ERA was almost 8 if you had seen him pitch tonight.

      • Keith

It figures that he would get it together against us

        • GoRangers23

          Yep. It’s sad…..for us, not him. πŸ˜„

    • FlappingGums

Colon has been pitching really good tonight. And our batting has been meh. πŸ˜•

  • Gregor_S

We’re only 2 games behind Seattle in the WC yet when we played them a few days ago they played like they still thought they’re in it. We on the other hand seem flat and lifeless. Not that I think we’re still in it but the players seem to have accepted that a little earlier than I expected.

    • FlappingGums

They’ve been a bit lifeless for a while now. It’s sad really. 😩

    • dearmidol

It’s not a lack of effort. It’s a lack of talent. Teams that are home run or strikeout will win some games along the way, and look energized doing it. But the law of averages catch up, and that means more times than not the offense will sputter.

      • Gregor_S

Totally agree. But at the same time I do think trading Darvish, whether it made sense or not, has taken a toll on morale. If the M’s had traded Felix or any other top player they’d probably be deflated too.

  • WhoKnowscs

Is it over? Did we win?

    • GoRangers23

Yep, sure did. We. Are. Awesome!

      • FlappingGums

        LOLA!!! πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

      • WhoKnowscs

GR8! I NU HOUR Ace Perez wouldn’t let us ↓.

        • FlappingGums

          LoL!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

        • GoRangers23

Now you can go to bed happy. Just don’t watch the after shows. πŸ˜„

          • WhoKnowscs

I don’t watch them normally, I don’t like feeling like I’m being talked down to.

          • GoRangers23

            Ok, you’re good then. πŸ˜„

          • FlappingGums

You haven’t been watching the games? Is that why you haven’t been around much? You feel like you’re talked down to?

          • elkaba

I think he means the post game stuff.

          • FlappingGums

Oh! Okay! Thanks!! That makes sense. I thought he meant here on the website.

          • WhoKnowscs

No, just in general Banny’s recaps tend to state the obvious and not take any blame.. And I paid attention to the game on my phone tonight.

          • FlappingGums

            Oh, I understand that. πŸ˜€

          • FlappingGums

I’m sorry you’re going through those feelings.

  • GoRangers23

    Woo Hoo! Go Carlos!

  • FlappingGums

    WTG. GOMEZ!! πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

  • Rowdy Yates

Nice to see the HR but Carlos seems to hit a lot of solo homers that don’t matter. Hope that’s wrong but I doubt it.

    • FlappingGums

      That’s spot on.

    • WhoKnowscs

At least half our homers seem to not matter.

  • FlappingGums

    That’s the game, fans.😩

  • Rowdy Yates

Unbelievable that Fatolo tosses a complete game for the 1st time in 3yrs and it’s against the Rangers.

    • elkaba

Is it really that unbelievable? We do tend to make aces out of ordinary human pitchers, don’t we? πŸ™‚

  • GoRangers23

Hats off to you bartolo. Complete game at 44. Impressive!

    • FlappingGums

I second that!! What she said! πŸ˜€

  • Rowdy Yates

    Happy Trails and good night!

    • FlappingGums

      Goodnight Rowdy!! πŸ™‚

    • GoRangers23

      Night Rowdy!

  • GoRangers23

Don’t forget that the game is on at 12:00 something tomorrow. Not sure of the exact time. They changed it.

    • GoRangers23

      12:05 pm CT

      • FlappingGums

        Oh – Thank you!!! I didn’t catch that! πŸ™‚

    • FlappingGums

I thought that time change was for a game in September.

      • GoRangers23

Oh, I guess I better go check. Thanks

        • FlappingGums

          You’re probably right.

          • GoRangers23

Nope, you’re right. I’m just going to delete the post. I didn’t even catch that it was Sept. I thought it was tomorrow’s game. Thanks!

  • FlappingGums

I’m going to watch for the Ryan Ventura clip! πŸ™‚

    • GoRangers23

      I just realized that Ventura’s number was 23. πŸ˜„

      • FlappingGums

Yeah, I read that earlier today. Odd, right?!?

  • GoRangers23
  • FlappingGums

I’m going to eat a snack . Goodnight Everybody!! πŸ˜„

    • GoRangers23

      Night Flap!
