40-man: Jimmy Herget.

A continued look at the Rangers 40-man roster.

JIMMY HERGET
Age: 27
Right-Handed Pitcher

Texas claimed Herget off waivers from Cincinnati in December of 2019. A month later, they released him. Five months later, they signed him to a contract and he made the opening day roster in 2020, out of the bullpen.

Then they released him a few weeks ago. Then re-signed him.

He’s not flashy. He’s an under-the-radar guy who comes out of the pen when called on and gets the job done. He walks too many guys to be called on in key situations but he’s certainly a good arm to give you an inning when your team is down.

The Rangers will be in that situation a lot in 2021. Herget will probably find a place in the bullpen. It won’t be an exciting roster spot. But the Rangers need twenty-six players to fill out the roster. He could be one of them.

He’s an interchangeable drill bit.
