One year ago today I took over this site from Twig.

July 5, 2014.

The Rangers won that day to raise their fourth-place record to 38-49. That is the closest to .500 they would ever be  Six games later the would be in last place, where they would remain for the rest of the season, on their way to losing 16 of their next 22 and falling into the deepest, darkest hole in a franchise with a deep dark history.

The Rangers had a manager named Ron Washington. Exactly two months later he would resign.

Josh Hamilton was the most despised opposing player on this and all nearby planets. Ten months later, he would be a beloved Ranger again.

Yu Darvish was the ace in the rotation. Six weeks later, he would no longer be in the rotation.

The Rangers did not have an official t-shirt. Ten months later, they have the RR3 t-shirt that single handedly turned their 2015 season around. So far.

It’s been a very rewarding year for me. I have gotten to know a lot of great people on this site, new people seem to be coming in all the time, and for the most part, all human transactions on here have been done with dignity and respect. I have had to ban only two posters. One a Rangers fan, one an Angels fan.

I want to thank everyone for an incredible first year, starting with Twig, who built the thing.

In the past year, I have written 296 original blog posts (297 with this). One or two of them have been worth reading.

I will keep doing this as long as you keep coming back. I do not claim to always be right. In fact, I am wrong quite often. After all, I am nothing more than a baseball fan, like you. My opinions aren’t always lucid, but they are honest, and passionate (there are very few things I care about in life other than baseball). And quite often I write these very late at night in my underwear, so you know I care.

But at least the Rangers we talk about this year are more fun to watch and talk about than last year. I can’t vouch for how good they are, but they are tolerable.

Below was my first blog post. Most of it pretty much applies to today. And, after reading some posts from last night, some of it might be as timely as ever.

And now, on to year two. Lucky you.
