We live in a world of instant gratification. We want it now and we don’t want to wait. Legendary Hollywood producer Robert Evans said it best when he joked, “ Instant gratification takes too long .”

But sometimes the slow ride is better.

Last night it took a one-hour-and-eighteen-minute rain delay, and a delay of seven innings, before the Rangers made an epic comeback by scoring seven runs in the bottom of the eighth to erase an 11-6 deficit.

Even in the face of another bullpen collapse, the Rangers persevered and pulled it out.

While last night’s game was easily the most fun game of the season, it also might prove to be the defining game of the season. The secret tunnel to October may have started on the Eleventh of May.

After the deluge of rain ended, a deluge of runs began.

Four for the White Sox.

Three for the Rangers.

Five more for the White Sox.

One for the Rangers.

Another one for the White Sox.

And all hope seemed lost.

Then seven for the Rangers, the last five coming with two outs.

For a team with a legacy of folding after the sixth inning, yesterday’s win was the fourth come-from-behind-late-in-the-game victory in the last week.

As Tom Petty said, “The waiting is the hardest part.”

But it’s worth it.
