Drew who? 187 comments

This is state of Rangers pitching. Rather than going with Austin Bibens-Dirkx, the Rangers went to the waiver heap and picked up Drew Hutchison.

He was drafted by the Blue Jays and pitched with them in 2012, 2014, 2015, and 2016, unspectacularly.

Toronto released him. The Pirate picked him up. They released him. Then the Phillies picked him up this year and released him.

Then the Rangers came calling.

The Rangers are the halfway house for pithing. If you cannot pitch for any other organization, you can pitch for Texas. Give us your poor, your tired, your unable to find the strike zone.

Hutchison got through three innings, giving up six hits, three walks, and six runs.\

You know you’ve had a rough day when the person they decide to replace you with is Matt Moore.

Any time anyone thinks Matt Moore is a better alternative than you, you should probably start rethinking your career options.

Welcome to Texas, Drew Hutchison. Don’t make any long-term plans.

How the Rangers hit against LeBlanc.

Red Sox complete the 4 game sweep of the Yankees where the Rangers failed to do vs the Orioles.. They now have a 9.5 game lead over the Yankees. Saw someone say it was the first 4 game sweep of the Yankees at Fenway in 48 years. I have no idea if that’s true or not.

    • WhoKnowscs

Meanwhile Astros lost and Athletics win. 4.0 games back now.

      • Nathan Whitten

The A’s seem serious about this. I did not think Seattle could hand with Houston. Oakland is a good, young team. Man, the West is loaded. The Rangers have a long road to the top.

    • dearmidol

That was amazing. They came back against the Yankees bullpen, which is supposed to be the best ever of all time.

      • Rowdy Yates

Funny how so many of the modern “best ever of all time” aren’t.

        • possumrld

A a big Amen to that thought, Rowdy!

    • Nathan Whitten

The race in the East turned into a rout. Boston has a very good team. I don’t see anyone beating them in the playoffs.

  • WhoKnowscs

I think I’d rather see what Drew Robinson could do on the mound next time.

    • JacobMcCandles

Agree and be willing to bet he is better than ABD,Colon,Moore

      • Nathan Whitten

Just curious, why do you say that? Was he a pitcher in college, HS, or even the minor leagues?

        • elkaba

          I know, right? Wrong Drew?

          • JacobMcCandles

Sit back and watch for educational illumination

          • elkaba

            That’s rich…lo

          • JacobMcCandles

            😘😎

        • JacobMcCandles

Combination of the others I mentioned being toast and eval of Drews past performances.

  • RangerReclinerCoach

“The Rangers are the halfway house for pithing.”
Pithing pretty well describes it. 🙂

  • Nathan Whitten

I really don’t understand why they picked this guy up. I guess they are looking under every rock for pitching help. Sometime in the 1st inning I got this feeling that Hutchison wasn’t going to fit the bill. He had no control and when he did hit the strike zone, it was in the hitters’ wheelhouse.

I hope you are feeling better today. Replace those lost electrolytes.

  • possumrld

“The Rangers are the halfway house for pitching. If you cannot pitch for any other organization, you can pitch for Texas. Give us your poor, your tired, your unable to find the strike zone.”
Another one that totally cracked me up, Kev!
I suppose the Rangers feel like they have nothing more to loose at this point. But ouch! That game last night was a really painful one to listen to.

  • JacobMcCandles

Astros have half their starting lineup on the DL one of their best relievers and McCullers…….if there was ever a chance Oakland better seize the moment

    • dearmidol

They were pretty injury free last year, right?

      • JacobMcCandles

Correa and Springer out a month, McCullers a couple of months Mc Hugh almost the entire season..nothing like this and the timing

    • elkaba

      Excuses, excuses… JK. 🙂
      That’ sucks.

  • Tony Howell

Rangers have more dogs on this pitching staff than the city pound. What we saw Sunday should show everyone that jd has no clue to building a pitching staff. Banny should have told him “I am not starting this clown he can’t pitch”.

    • von_todwin

I think we already had evidence of that with giving Matt Moore 10 million dollars, but in this case, it seems to me like exactly the time to try out reclamation projects, so I doubt JD was looking at Hutchison like he was the chance to prove he’s got the chops to build a rotation.

Sometimes the buy-low guys pay off, usually they don’t, but it’s not like we’re going to sign/trade for 3-4 quality pitchers by next year, so I’d say now’s the time to throw some gambles out there.

      • elkaba

EXACTLY! Winter/off season, that’s the time for signing a full roster of known commodities. Late summer, when you’re dead last, that’s the time to throw some darts and see what sticks! Gobble up those cast offs, JD!

  • TD30
    • von_todwin

It’s a good thing this message board was 100% in agreement that Odor was toast, without a single naysayer. Otherwise, we would certainly look pretty silly right now.

      • von_todwin

Also, wasn’t Carpenter the NL winner the last time Odor won also? Weird coincidence.

      • dearmidol

I don’t recall any talk like that.

      • TD30

I’ll admit, I was down on him. But in this case, I LOVE being proven wrong!

      • Rowdy Yates

Nope, Jake defended him thru all.

        • von_todwin

          I know. Meant it tongue-in-cheekly.

        • JacobMcCandles

Unfortunately I have to wait until 2019 to get another right

          • Rowdy Yates

Shoot, Odor could thud to earth tomorrow. It’s baseball and almost nothing is assured besides the Rangers bad pitching.

          • JacobMcCandles

            What makes the sport #1

      • possumrld

Jake was the “Lone Ranger” as far as outspoken support goes. I never totally wrote Odor off altogether. But I was almost to that point.

    • elkaba

      The man’s on a roll.

      • possumrld

For sure, elk! I bet not many players get it twice in a row!

      • JacobMcCandles

This guy is sharp…thanks to Kev for the tip

  • TD30
  • Rowdy Yates

Always been tough for me to understand what McLemore ‘brings’ to the pre and post game shows. Tonight he was asked “why are the Mariners slumping?” his unequivocal answer was “they miss Cano … his leadership … his bat and fielding” (not exact quote). Really???? Cano went on the DL May 13. The rest of May the Mariners were 12-5, in June they were 19-9. Evidently they didn’t realize until July that Cano wasn’t on the field anymore because then they went 10-12 and are off to a bad August too. I know Mc will say whatever the FO tells him to, and he’s a paid “homer” like lottsa ‘color’ guys but he’s sooo full of BS it’s time for him to go on a permanent Disabled List.

    • JacobMcCandles

Exactly…sometimes players step up when a star goes down…pitching will be there downfall again

    • elkaba

LOL, this is what you want to see….

    • dearmidol

I can’t let listen to him.

  • JacobMcCandles

Uncle Jake took the Scary girl to Mission Impossible…she loses a ring Scary gave her from Santa Fe …so I’m crawling around on the floor…she is bawling….I’m asking her you sure you didn’t take it off in the truck which is met with elevated bawling and resounding NO….so then I go thru half filled trash can with God knows what in there….

No ring….get out to the truck…it’s in her cup holder!!!! Kevin HOW DID YOU DO IT…You deserve a purple heart…4 of them

    • elkaba

      LOLA

    • dearmidol

Ha. That brings back lots of memories.

  • JacobMcCandles

    Typical Marty meltdown inning

  • TD30

Well that was a nice DP!

  • WhoKnowscs

I’ve seen enough to know the Mariners won’t win with this managerial philosophy.

    • WhoKnowscs

They might this game but overall yanking pitchers in shutouts because its after the 6 and they give up a weak single isn’t going to cut it.

  • WhoKnowscs

    Have a blast Profar!

    • WhoKnowscs

      That’ll do.

  • elkaba

I’m glad they mentioned that Profar’s hits tend to be clutch. I’ve noticed he can really rise to the occasion this season.

    • dearmidol

A good RBI to batting average ratio

      • elkaba

Just the way I like it! 🙂

    • von_todwin

I noticed early in the season he kept getting 3-RBI games, pretty regularly. To the point that he was on pace for 100 RBIs over 162 games for a pretty long stretch.

      • elkaba

That’s how he was trending way back before the injury. I’m just glad he’s getting his shot at playing time with us and doing good work. He’s so much better than so many others who seem to hang around our roster…

    • JacobMcCandles

      RC too

  • WhoKnowscs

    Just a hit please!

  • WhoKnowscs

I wonder where we’d be if the Mariners didn’t have Banny’s Twin managing them? I.E. They’d just left LeBlanc in.

  • WhoKnowscs

A walk will work fine Joey!

  • WhoKnowscs

    Sadly I think a K is coming.

  • WhoKnowscs

    YAY!!!!!

  • elkaba

    Yes!

  • WhoKnowscs

I bet we’d be in the top of the 8th without a run if they didn’t hae Banny’s Twin managing them.

  • Rowdy Yates

    Great at bat Gallo!

  • WhoKnowscs

need one more to reset the game. A Sac fly would work fine.

  • Rowdy Yates

    IKF is a gutsy kid!

  • WhoKnowscs

Keep the train moving, Station to station is working.

  • WhoKnowscs

We need Servais to use another pitcher! or 2 this inning.

    • JacobMcCandles

Pulled him on a two hitter with 82 pitches thrown,,,,,,geez

  • WhoKnowscs

WE have a Choo Choo for the train! Keep it moving!

    • WhoKnowscs

Awwwww . . . I guess the Choo is supposed to be at the front of the train.

  • JacobMcCandles

Pudges kid on the mound agst the Stros tonight….5-1 2.59 era this year…looks nothing like Dad

  • JacobMcCandles

Ever notice when you go to Quick Trip and walk by the chili cheese dispenser there is always a dob of cheese on the napkin that they catch it in but never chili. Why is that you think?

  • JacobMcCandles

    Nice recovery by the 1B

  • GoRangers23

Wow. Tied 3-3 in the tenth. Come on Rangers! Time to win this!

  • possumrld

Not much patience at the plate being shown the last 3 innings

  • possumrld

    C’mon Roogie!

    • JacobMcCandles

      Well hit…wrong place

      • possumrld

At least he made solid contact.

    • dearmidol

      He is really slumping.

      • possumrld

        lol!

      • possumrld

        You mean Choo? 🙂

  • JacobMcCandles

I think I better call Saul

  • possumrld

Claudio, Claudio – Please don’t serve up any cans of corn to go.

  • WhoKnowscs

OH Banny, Why’d you not just let the other guy finish the inning? Claudio isn’t the same pitcher as last year and he makes me nervous.

    • possumrld

I think that thought is probably a universal one for Rangers fans at the moment

  • GoRangers23

That was dreadful. Calhoun really should have caught that.

  • elkaba

Come on… lets get this done!

  • possumrld

    Whew!

  • WhoKnowscs

    Beltre will walk it off.

    • possumrld

At least that last guy is gone! Good grief, he owns the Rangers!

  • elkaba

If Tuivailala and Kenner-Falefa had a kid what would his name be?

    • JacobMcCandles

      sue

      • elkaba

Come on, Cash. Just go with it.

        • JacobMcCandles

My name is Sue….how do you do….NOW you gonna dies…yeah thats what I told him

          • possumrld

Then he bit off a chunk of my ear…

          • JacobMcCandles

Rollin in the mud and the blood and the beer!!!!!

          • possumrld

I started to post that! Awesome!

    • possumrld

      “Lala-falala”?

      • JacobMcCandles

        Awesome

      • elkaba

        Yes!

    • elkaba

      Fa-la-la-la-la La-la-la-la

      • possumrld

        lol!

    • GoRangers23

I just commented to my husband that he looked either Hawaiian or Samoan, but I couldn’t read what his name was.

      • JacobMcCandles

        His middle name is Spam

        • GoRangers23

          😄.

          • JacobMcCandles

For reasons unknown Spam is loved by Hawaiians

          • GoRangers23

            Yes it is.

          • possumrld

I guess they aren’t very particular. But anyone who likes poi, probably thinks Spam is A-OK too.

          • GoRangers23

            Ha!

          • elkaba

Spam is great stuff if you know how to cook it right.

          • JacobMcCandles

            “great”……uh not so much

          • elkaba

Yep. My cousin was stationed at Pearl and sent Mom some recipes. Everyone loves the stuff made Hawaiian style.

          • possumrld

Yes, it can be very good fried

          • elkaba

Yep. It’s also a good breakfast meat fried (and better for you than bacon or ham.) We get the lower sodium kind- better for the old tickers.

          • possumrld

Breakfast is mostly when we had it. Low sodium sounds good, because it is pelenty salty.

          • JacobMcCandles

LOw sodium takes away the flavor……had a military friend that was hispanic and his Mom made spam with eggs……TASTY

          • JacobMcCandles

            OK

          • elkaba

The reasons are well known. WWII brought Spam to the islands where ham is beloved. It took off like wildfire and remains a most popular meat. They even make sushi out of it. Makes sense actually. It’s thousands of miles from supplies and the canned wonder lasts years. Buy it in bulk and you’re set.

          • JacobMcCandles

THe chinese guy I worked for…his wife made a fried rice dish with mixed veggies and Spam….pretty tasty……never heard the WWII thing

          • elkaba

The US shipped tons of Spam all over the world for GI’s. It was really the first MRE. That and canned milk. Hawaii has always been partial to all things pork. Spam was a natural hit. It’s cheap compared to other meat stuffs they can get. And they had so many good pork recipes ready to go it just clicked.

          • JacobMcCandles

Huh….never know where a education is coming from!! Scary and Dads Mom used to eat it weekly fried always with Mac n cheese

          • elkaba

Cut it in cubes and pan fry it in a little oil. I make it with onions, bell peppers, mushroom, zucchini, pineapple- whatever I have around. I like the meat crispy, so I let the cubes get really brown before adding anything else to the pan. When it’s done and the veggies are sauteed, I add the pineapple juice and a can of tomato sauce and let it simmer down. Serve over rice or noodles. Guarantee you’ll like it.

          • JacobMcCandles

            Lost me at tomato sauce…. : )

          • elkaba

            You don’t like tomato sauce?

          • JacobMcCandles

Doesnt sound like a good combo

          • elkaba

Just try it. It’s delicious. One of the few recipes I could get the kids to eat veggies with. The sauce is delicious.

          • possumrld

Yes, and many men who fought in WWII wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole after the war!

          • elkaba

I can imagine. I’d hate to have to eat it out of the can, but needs must I guess.

          • Rowdy Yates

We lived on it on Guam when my Dad was stationed there in ’55-’57. No fresh meat at all except pork for 2 years.

          • GoRangers23

            That’s rough.

          • Rowdy Yates

Elk’s right, there’s lottsa stuff that can be done with it to make it edible.

          • GoRangers23

Right, but two years is a very long time to only have pork to eat. Wait, didn’t you also have seafood?

  • possumrld

I feel like the longer this goes on, the more likely the Rangers are to come out on the short end of it, home team or not.

    • JacobMcCandles

I felt that in inning 1

      • possumrld

        ha ha!

  • WhoKnowscs

    Condor would’a had that.

    • possumrld

      …in his sleep

  • WhoKnowscs

Drew Robinson pinch hits and walks it off . . . and then you can repeat the article title tomorrow! =P

  • elkaba

    Odor is a stud.

    • possumrld

And moire so by the day!

  • WhoKnowscs

    Butler isn’t the answer.

    • possumrld

Yeah but they always “do it”

  • WhoKnowscs

Well . . . I felt better for one pitch at least.

  • GoRangers23

    Butler vs Nelson…..OY

  • possumrld

If it weren’t for the caught stealing, there would be a run in and still with no outs.

  • WhoKnowscs

    Here comes Seager.

  • WhoKnowscs

Oh they intentionally walked Seager . . . that was smart.

  • WhoKnowscs

closer to the plate please we don’t want a wild pitch.

    • WhoKnowscs

      not a homer either though.

  • GoRangers23

    Well…..

  • JacobMcCandles

AB doesnt move like he used too.. : (

  • possumrld

    This was fairly predictable

    • JacobMcCandles

Yep….at least we are fighting in a lost cause season

  • WhoKnowscs

    14 hits . .. to 4 hits.

    • possumrld

      Pitiful

  • WhoKnowscs
  • WhoKnowscs

Okay Gallo you are Good at 3 things . . . you’ve already done 2 tonight. Now, do the third

    • WhoKnowscs

Bah, You already did that one.

  • JacobMcCandles

    Wash wouldve bunted

  • Rowdy Yates

Come on Choo, we’ve got a flt to San Francisco tomorrow and I need some sleep. Get a hit and end this!

    • JacobMcCandles

Pretty BB park if you go

      • Rowdy Yates

No we’re gonna be up the coast. Spent many days and nights at old Candlestick but haven’t done the new one yet.

        • JacobMcCandles

One of the 5 best IMO and Petco at San Diego

          • Rowdy Yates

            Petco is a great ballpark.

  • possumrld

We need a walk off. If not I would just as soon not see another tie, because that would probably just delay the inevitable.

    • WhoKnowscs

I’d rather a tie . . . we may lose today but we can wear them out for tomorrow and the next day.

      • possumrld

        Good point!

  • elkaba

    Oh, well. Good try.

  • JacobMcCandles

    Oh well…..nice battle

  • possumrld

Bummer. Someone needs to check to make sure that guy Choo, is the same person who we saw playing before the All Star Break.

  • grumpyderfsmagic8ball

    🐀🐀🐀

  • JacobMcCandles

    OK…calling Saul

    • possumrld

Fill me in here, Jake. becuase have no ID what that means

      • Nathan Whitten

Better Call Saul. Great TV show that I binge watch by buying a season on DVD. Saul aka Jimmy has 2 sides. He’s honest…most of the time.

        • possumrld

Thanks for the “pop culture” update, Nate! (hey that’s a poem!) So now I am all “hip” and so forth. Right? 🙂

  • Rowdy Yates

6 hits in 12 or 13 innings usually isn’t going to cut it.

    • possumrld

Only if most of them are home runs.

      • Rowdy Yates

Thought Gallo might step up and be a hero but not tonight.

        • possumrld

Yeah I was hoping so too. He had the chances.

        • elkaba

He hasn’t exactly been Mr. Clutch.

          • possumrld

Yeah Roogie has been carrying the team. And when he didn’t hit tonight, no one stepped up to take up the slack.

  • possumrld

    Later gators!

  • JacobMcCandles

Astros down 1-0 in the 9th, 2 outs and Mars in hits a 3 run HR…..
