Highest-paid player.

Who says the Rangers are cheap?

The Texas Rangers have the distinction of having the highest paid player in all of major league baseball in 2020.

Prince Fielder will be making $24 million this year. Because he never officially retired and instead was released by the team in 2016 order to make room on their 40-man roster, Fielder is not subject to the having his salary decreased at the pro-rated share as with all active major leaguers.

The second-highest paid player is Marlins left-hander Wei-Yin Chen. The Marlins released Chen in November and nobody picked him up, so he is not an active player but is still owed the money. And, like with Fielder, not being active means he is not subject to the pro-rated salary reduction. He gets his full $22 million.

Ouch.

So, Mike Trout will make $13 million. Prince Fielder will make $24 million.

But, on the bright side, this is the last season the Rangers are on the hook for Fielder.
