Hot stove league: Free agent second basemen. 14 comments

Unlike their counterparts at first, some quality free agent second basemen are available. Enough that if you are looking to plug a hole up the middle, you can find a player who just won a gold glove at second in either league (Ian Kinsler, D.J. LeMahieu). You can find a guy who as recently as 2016 won a batting title (LeMahieu), hit 42 home runs (Brian Dozier), and led his league in OPS (Daniel Murphy).

There is quality to be had.

Depending on how you look at it, the Rangers are either set or stuck at second. After his 2018 season, it’s fair to characterize, paraphrasing Winston Churchill, Rougned Odor as a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.

In his past thirteen months of baseball, encompassing all of 2018 and 2017 and the last month of 2016, Odor has had four brilliantly jaw dropping months at the plate and nine embarrassing dropping-the-steak-in-the-dirt months at the plate. But he did turn around what had been a bad case of Michael Jackson-itis (“why do I have a glove on my left hand?” syndrome) into a gold glove third-place finish in 2018. So, there’s that.

Available free agent second basemen:

Daniel Murphy
Ian Kinsler
Josh Harrison
D.J. LaMahieu
Brian Dozier

Asdrubal Cabrera
Jed Lowrie
Logan Forsythe
Neil Walker
Daniel Descalso

Gordon Beckham
Adam Rosales
Tony Renda
Brandon Phillips
Eric Sogard

(Players in bold are former Rangers.)

Wow … 4:30 in the afternoon and evidently no one on RR3 is interested in 2B? Odor’s had 4 good months out of a total of 13? … equivalent to 2 good months per year or a great Apr & May and horrible June, July, August, September … what’s to discuss? Maybe it’s just ennui because we all know Odor’s still got what ….15 or 16 seasons left on his lifetime contract? JD luvs those because it worked so well with Choo. Maybe in 2019 Odor’lll have 3 great months out of 6, and then 4 out of 6 etc. Gosh he’ll be Ian Kinsler in no time at all. Meh, I hope not.

Seems Rangers fans have already given up on 2019.

I think that was the plan all along. Will be rooting for Odor to build on from the 2018 season.
Overall, the Rangers are sitting better than OK at 2B.

I have had a migraine headache all day today, so I didn’t even make my daily post.
Stupid virus! I will try to post something tomorrow though.

Try the drugs everyone is downing. Opium derivatives. They work. Every time. Headache Psssht. We are all happy.

Being offended by a unnamed poster concerning assault on my family I am reducing posts a bunch. Don’t ask me who it was as I will not name the person as it appears it’s a personal vendetta.

My complaint of the day is there is talk about copping out and going with Art terf at the new stadium. Rather have no roof and grass vs roof and terf

    • calntom

Would turf make it less desirable to sign with the Rangers?
How much Texas sun does grass need anyways?

      • JacobMcCandles

Rather have synthetic grass or a very elaborate watering system

Jake, I haven’t seen these posts. When did they happen? I will investigate.

Have you guys seen the drawings for Oakland’s new ballpark? It is totally odd! It fits right in with California. It has these cave-like shaped things all the way around the outside edge of it, with grass growing over the top of them. I wonder what they are supposed to be?

Looking forward to the Steers/Sooners this Sat…….TU is showing a lot of butt hurt for a team that won this yr. NCAA has said that doing a down Longhorn salute is too much…ahhhh. That coupled with Ehrlinger crying about the game sets up 50 pts OU will hang on them…..trouble is that defense will give up 48
