I don’t see JD on the hot seat…at least he shouldn’t be. He has been in charge for the Rangers for about a decade. In no other decade in their history have the Rangers enjoyed as much success. Only in the 90’s was their performance even in the same ballpark, no pun intended. Yes, the organization is not in great shape right now. It’s still a heck of a lot better than it was when he was given the job as GM.

I agree that making the post season this year is an event that will not occur. I do not agree that the same fate awaits the team in 2018. If just half of the blown saves were changed to wins, the Rangers would be right in the middle of the WC chase. You’ve said many times that building a bullpen is a crap shoot. Well, he lost this year. There is enough talent in place to use as a foundation on which to build a top-notch ‘pen. If that is fixed, the team is automatically 10-15 games better. We’ve seen the move in MLB away from relying on the rotation to handle as many innings as it has traditionally. I believe that makes it easier to build a rotation. Hamels is fine. Re-sign Cashner. Hope Griffin is healthy. Give Perez one more shot. I’m with you on using ABD. There’s five. Maybe we get the young Japanese star. JD has positioned himself to have the money to out-bid others. Finally, be on the lookout off-season. The rotation can also be improved without magic.

As far a position players are concerned, it should not be hard to get more production from 1B and DH. If Beltre stays healthy, let Gallo play 1B every day. Let Choo DH. Someone needs to work intensively with Odor on defense and with the bat. We know he can hit. He needs to get smarter, as Gallo is doing. They now have the SS I thought they had. Great offensive IF. Other than Odor, a darn good defensive IF which can get better. OF is the biggest concern. No CF, only one corner OF (Mazara). Perhaps the Dodger prospect comes through. That’s another corner OF. A CF will have to be found–somewhere.

I haven’t smoked any opium-filled pipes, so this isn’t a dream. I think there can be a good team. But–I’m not betting the ranch on it.

    • elkaba

I think they can be a good team, too, but not if they bet the season on things like Griffin staying healthy or Perez coming around. Signing a Japanese pitcher who loves to bat sounds like asking for trouble to me. Why not use the money you have elsewhere to fill some obvious holes? Use the international pool money to buy yourself the future you traded away the last few seasons.

As you said, 10-15 games from a solid bullpen would have made this a different season altogether. So resign Cashner, go buy a solid CF and a couple of non-flashy-but-reliable, finesse SPs, move any leftover or underperforming Ps to the pen and buy a decent closer and this is a different team next season without throwing away more prospects.

      • elkaba

Oh! And teach Odor how to bat and play 2B. πŸ™‚

      • Tony Howell

Cain would be the best choice for cf, unless you could talk Pitt out Of McCutchen for a cheap price and sign him to a long term contract. I like both Cobb and Lynn to go with Hamals and Cashner. Maybe Reynolds on a 2 yr deal, should be cheap, hitting 282 right now. Gallo Lf, Cain or mccutchen cf, Maz rf.

        • Gregor_S

Cain would be great and a perfect fit but the article on the Rangers’ website explaining why they’re auditioning Robinson in CF said they may not re-sign Gomez because they’ll need to spend a lot on pitching. And Cain would undoubtedly cost a lot more than Gomez.

The Pirates have moved McCutchen to RF in the apparent belief that he no longer is that good in CF, or at least isn’t as good as whoever they put there instead. Given our likely defensive deficiencies in LF and RF we need someone who can really cover ground in CF (like Cain).

I suspect Calhoun will be in LF next year. He’s got nothing left to prove as a hitter in the minors and will be 23 in November. He can learn whatever he’s likely to learn about playing LF in the next month or so and in ST and maybe winter ball. That puts Gallo at 1st and Maz in RF, with Choo as DH. Maybe once in awhile Calhoun is DH with Maz in LF and Choo in RF. Not a great defensive OF no matter how you slice it.

          • Tony Howell

McCutchen played cf yesterday and this past weekend. Got a little better avg and more power then Cain, but either one would fit the bill and neither so a lot

        • elkaba

Sounds good to me, but I’m not technical- I don’t dive into the stats on players from other teams. I let you guys do that. I just focus on the big picture. πŸ™‚

      • GoRangers23

I haven’t looked at his stats, but maybe if Otani is a really good hitter who gets on base a lot, he can save us extra money and plug two holes at one time. I do see that using that money to make the future better is a good idea, but I also am not sure I want to wait 2-3 years or more to be competitive. It’s really not fun watching our team lose. Also, as we’ve seen with Leonys, the prospects aren’t a sure deal. They don’t always make it. So I am torn as to what I think should be done. It’s all a gamble. There is also the possibility of a pitcher who hits, getting hurt much easier if he is running bases and hitting. (Oh, the horror! ). There will be twice as many ways he could get really hurt and we would be paying SOOOOO much money for him.

So, to sum up my post, I have no idea what should be done. 😁 I wonder if JD ever eeny meeny miny mo’s it? Lo. It seems that way sometimes.

        • elkaba

I can’t see any AL team paying the price for Otani then taking the risk of letting him get injured running the bases. But way before that, I can’t see any Japanese player who’s used to and loves hitting going to an AL team! He may not even decide to come at all. So my biggest concern is seeing another JD fixation- setting sights and hopes on a single, specific deal when there are so many other ways to help the team.

The international pool money has to be used on foreign players, so if we don’t get Otani we have to spend it somewhere. My best guess is that would likely be for younger prospects, but it’s a long way to next season and we’ll have $3 mil to spend. You never know. Just knowing we’re sitting on that kind of cash could entice a ML-ready player from Cuba or another Japanese player to decide the time is right to make a move.

          • GoRangers23

Judging from what Ive read, it would seem like the Rangers are doing whatever is necessary to have the best shot at signing him. I’ve also heard somewhere that if he does sign with a team, they must allow him to hit. Time will tell, I guess. I really don’t think it would be wise to sign someone who puts such importance on hitting, and then not let him hit. The Rangers have already spend some money in the International market, but I can’t remember how much it was.

          • GoRangers23

It said they have spent about 3 million dollars on Latin American players.

          • FlappingGums

I think Elk mentioned that they had $3million that needed to be spent on the International market. I don’t know if they have any more for players outside the USA or not.

    • dearmidol

“On the hot seat” isn’t implying he should be fired. I meant he needs to have his cage rattled a bit. “You are the best GM we’ve ever had, Jon, but this is a business where your laurels are for when you retire. You’ve squandered some valuable assets and we’ve arrived at a point where we have no pitching in our system so playing at a level we expect is going to cost us a lot more money. Look, we approved your moves so this isn’t all on you. But what is on you is getting us out of it. We’ve had absolute faith in your judgment. So show us we need that to continue.”

      That sort of hot seat.

      • FlappingGums

        LoL! πŸ™‚

      • Nathan Whitten

If that was your intent–I do agree.

  • FlappingGums

Other than the post season for 2018 being a pipe dream, this is an accurate recap, as I see it. I want to see what other changes might happen between now and early season 2018 before I give up on next year’s team.

    • dearmidol

Yeah, maybe that part was a bit over the top. I do that from time to time.

      • GoRangers23

But the whole thing was surely funny! 😁

  • Curt Hays

Hey, at least we aren’t Yankees fans.

  • FlappingGums

I’m going to keep cheering on the Rangers!! I’m aware that we’re not going to the post season. I agree with the majority of the group that we will Not be in a Wild Card slot. And even with that, I really like it best when the Rangers win!!! So, I’ll keep cheering and backing the Rangers ….. knowing we’re not “in this” at this point. πŸ˜€ πŸ™Œ πŸ˜„

    • dearmidol

I’m going tomorrow night and Sunday. It’s baseball. Even if it’s mediocre baseball.

    • GoRangers23

      Me too, Flap! 😁

Great pics! With all these new babies, Rangers family is growing fast!! πŸ™‚

      • GoRangers23

I was just thinking the same thing. πŸ˜„ It seems like there are more babies being born this year, but maybe it’s because we are hearing more about it this year than we normally do.

  • WhoKnowscs

Oh. a “Who?”, with a 12.00 ERA. Any reason to watch? I’m seeing a complete game shutout in our future, complete with 10+ K’s.

  • Tony Howell

If we run this same team out again next yr plus a couple bull pen arms the Astros are going to run away from us again. Other then Hamals the rest of the rotation is a crap shoot. We have six count them six position starters batting under 250 and one hitting about 260 (Choo) can’t win hitting like this. Take a look at the teams that are playing strong this year all have 3 to 5 players around the 300 avg. we need to add 2 pitchers and 2 position players and a couple arms in the pen to compete. And they will be out that this winter and all Jd had to do is sign them

  • elkaba

Excellent review, Kevin! And spot on. For the next step, here’s an in depth pre-cap on the most important steps we need to take before 2018…

If the owners keep JD around, (capital IF) which I think is likely, it’s time we see an end to general management based on wishful thinking and an absolute full stop to constructing a team for the season ahead assuming best case scenarios. I realize no team starts the season with all the questions answered, but to go into each season with a team full of obvious holes with only wish-and-a-prayer solutions on hand is foolhardy. It’s what’s gotten us to where we were at the deadline the last few seasons: Not quite enough prospects to buy everything we’ll need for the playoffs. The FO needs to start looking at the team each Winter with the rose colored glasses off…

For example, there’s no reason to assume Martin Perez is suddenly going to morph into a solid starting pitcher in 2018. He might. But you don’t bet the season on something like that. He’s had long enough to figure it out and hasn’t, so face up to what you have and make better use of him by shoring up the pen with him for next season.

Even if you had every reason to assume Dyson and Co. would be stronger than they turned out to be, given the seriousness of Diekman’s surgery, there was no reason to assume he’d be the cavalry who’d show up and shore up the bullpen in July. Take a hard look at bullpen usage and assume any arm who carries a heavy load one season might not be your best arm the next!

And if you aren’t going to do something drastic with a player like Odor in the off season (like actually teach him how to play his position and bat like a pro) then build a team to compensate for his obvious deficits. Don’t waste half a season waiting for him to get a clue.

Go down the line, player by player, and assess what you actually have, not what you’d have in a perfect scenario. Plug the obvious holes in the off season. Back yourself up where there are questionable pieces. And tell your manager to manage the team he has each day, not the team he wishes he had.

    • dearmidol

      Amen.

      • TD30

        I will second this AMEN!

  • Gregor_S

Like many here I often fantasize about Banister’s removal but have little hope JD would fire him. The only way I think it could happen would be if he were kicked upstairs. I doubt JD would want him in the FO but he might make him a broadcaster, as was done with Francona and Torre when they were in between managing jobs. Now while it’s safe to say speaking English is not one of Banny’s strengths, and he might be the only person who would be worse than Raymond, I think we’d all appreciate getting the benefit of his managerial wisdom. I can see it now:

“CJ, that was Hamels’ 92nd pitch. Cause for serious concern. That was his 93rd pitch. What could they be thinking? Omigod, that was his 94th pitch…oh no!!!!”

    What could be more fascinating?

    • FlappingGums

      Fascinating and Funny!!!

      • Gregor_S

        Thanks. I could’ve gone on…and on…

        • FlappingGums

My prediction to win the WS, best chance to least chance 1st is easy. Dodgers ,Nats, Boston, Astros, Ariz,Cubs,Rockies,Yanks.

    • dearmidol

If the Dodgers don’t win it, they really dropped the ball.

      • Tony Howell

Agreed they have built one of the best teams in the last 30 or 40 years.

So much for the dude DMN said should be anointed closer just this morning.

  • Tony Howell

Odor has several problems, deff and swing and miss way to much. I could live with the D but the bad SO hurts. Most of this if not all is Banny fault by putting him so high in the batting order that he can’t handle the pressure, drop him to 8 or 9 take the pressure off and let him just play.

    • dearmidol

Also, putting him up there kills the lineup, not just his confidence.

    • elkaba

He should be batting 7th, I think. That’s where his average was highest earlier in the season. Makes not a lick of sense to bat him 5th where he struggles and kills rallies.

      • Rowdy Yates

        Banisense ain’t baseball sense.

  • SABERMETRICS MASTER

2018 free agents JD should consider signing:

    • dearmidol

I’ll add Eric Hosmer and Carlos Santana to the list.

  • Rowdy Yates

Hoping Rodriquez doesn’t turn into another example of a Rangers prospect with great potential probably brought up too early who ends up getting pummeled and never recovers at MLB level.

    • elkaba

We do have a record for rushing the kids up before they’re ready, I think. That might make more kids want to sign here, but it may not be the best for either them or the club in the long run.

  • Gregor_S

Whew! Beltre just escaped getting another bump on his head to match the first one.

  • Rowdy Yates

Braymond and Greif … the reason ole Griff wasn’t concerned about starting today was because he thought Bani said he was going to pitch batting practice. And he is.

    • elkaba

      LOL

  • WhoKnowscs

I grant you that it wasn’t his start. But it’d still be normal rest had we played yesterday. How AJ’s pitching now says being cautious last time despite pitching well(they pulled him at 81 pitches just to baby him on of fear) because it was his first game back(despite rehab starts) was @#$#$#% @$@#$ @#$@#$. Babying pitchers DOES NOT WORK!

    • WhoKnowscs

They should have let him pitch as long as he showed he was capable.

      • Gregor_S

Could also be that he partied all night last night not thinking he was going to pitch. Lots of nightlife in NY.

        • FlappingGums

          Right?!? Good point! πŸ˜€

        • WhoKnowscs

True, but my original analysis still holds. I’m sick of seeing them baby pitchers for fear of injury. Only to have them turn around and perform poorly or get injured despite it. Use them while you have them.

          • Gregor_S

They definitely do baby their starters and overuse their relievers.

  • Gregor_S

Well the Rangers have lost a lot of games where they got off to an early 4 run lead or better. Don’t think they’ve won a game where they were behind by that much early. This is their chance.

  • Rod Harper

Can you spell “justified karma”? Ha ha ha.

    • WhoKnowscs

      Baseball fan’s everywhere rejoice.

    • elkaba

      Hahahahahaha!

  • WhoKnowscs

Rangers should take note, the Met’s are giving a lesson in how to hold an early 5 run lead(or actually lower 4 run lead in this case). And what do you know they are actually using a A/AA fill in spot starter in his second Major League start to do it.

    • elkaba

AVg. against Flexen up to today was .400-something and we can’t hit him. That’s how good we are at the plate.

    • Rowdy Yates

      This is his 3rd start.

  • FlappingGums

    WTG. JOEY GALLO!! πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

  • elkaba

Raymond says Bani’s already decided Griffin gets 90-95 pitches, no more. What? That’s just nuts. Why not let the guy pitch as long as he’s feeling good???? It’s not like we have an army of spare arms just now.

    • WhoKnowscs

      Banny needs to be fired.

  • Rowdy Yates

Braymond ALWAYS sounds so surprised when anyone except Gallo hits a HR for the Rangers.

  • FlappingGums

    WTG BELTRE!! πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

  • dearmidol

Rougned Odor is Free Parking for pitchers.

  • Rowdy Yates

Odor has to be the biggest disappoint on a disappointing team. Takes strikes, swings at balls, can’t catch anything not hit directly to him, has a crappy arm and the ugliest effing helmet in MLB. Had high hopes and was glad to see JD give him an extended contract early. But seems no matter what the Rangers FO has done the past two yrs it’s been a mistake.

    • dearmidol

And don’t ignore his nasty ass black teeth from all that chaw. He’s a dirtbag.

    • SABERMETRICS MASTER

I would recall his horses !!!!

      • elkaba

        Call the repo man!

      • Rowdy Yates

Hey Mr C liked your ballpark last week. Saw the Os play a great game against KC and sat thru a downpour.

        • SABERMETRICS MASTER

Camden Yards is a nice ballpark. Did you hang out in the Inner Harbor?

          • Rowdy Yates
          • SABERMETRICS MASTER

            Yeap …… That’s home !!!!!

Glad you enjoyed your East Coast tour !

          • dearmidol

Are you coming to Dallas soon?

          • SABERMETRICS MASTER

            Friday

          • dearmidol

I’m going to the game Sunday. You?

          • SABERMETRICS MASTER

Might go Saturday. I’m flying back Sunday morning

          • dearmidol

Let me know if you do.

          • SABERMETRICS MASTER

            Hamels is pitching Friday right?

          • dearmidol

            Yes.

          • SABERMETRICS MASTER

            Hmmmmmm

          • dearmidol

If you want to go Friday, let me know. I’ll get us two tickets.

          • SABERMETRICS MASTER

Ha ! I will need at least 4 tickets !!!!
I’m taking my daughter and 2 sons to the game with me.

            LOLA

          • dearmidol

And your best friend from RR3.

          • SABERMETRICS MASTER

            Sure !!!!

            lol

          • dearmidol

            Ha, just joking.

          • SABERMETRICS MASTER

            I’ll invite you a beer !!!!

          • dearmidol

Wait, Saturday is Pudge day. I looked for tickets. They are tough to get.

          • Rowdy Yates

Took the ferry around in a rainstorm and got a great rainbow pic and had a couple brews by the Harbor.

          • SABERMETRICS MASTER

Hope it was not National Bohemian beer.

            It’s really a bad beer !!!

  • dearmidol

Two more home runs and the Rangers tie it. I sure hope they have two more hits in them.

    • Gregor_S

Mets bullpen is supposedly pretty bad. Not as bad as ours of course but we could end up losing this one 11-10.

  • dearmidol

Gallo has been such a surprise.

    • WhoKnowscs

He’ll have a much higher average next year.

      • dearmidol

        You might be right.

    • SABERMETRICS MASTER

Why is he not in the cleanup spot is beyond my understanding.
Best OPS in the lineup should be place behind Choo, Andrus and Beltre !!!!

      • WhoKnowscs

He needs to bat 3rd with Beltre protecting him.

        • WhoKnowscs

But needs to get his average up around .275. for a season

        • SABERMETRICS MASTER

best hitters in the lineup (Andrus/Beltre) should be batting 2nd and 3rd.
Gallo as cleanup is a natural !!!

          Just my opinion !

          • elkaba

            And you’re right!

      • dearmidol

        Our Idiot Manager.

      • grumpyderfsmagic8ball

And screw up LRLRLRLR…I think not

        • elkaba

          Huff…

        • FlappingGums

          LoL!!! πŸ˜‚

  • dearmidol

I like how Grieve tried to sugar coat AJ’s performance. “You take away the first two innings when he gave up four runs, and then he gave up a walk and a double in the fifth, but he didn’t give up any more runs in the third, fourth, or fifth.”

    ?

    • FlappingGums

      LOLA!!!

    • Rowdy Yates

After part of a season of being in the booth with Braymond and a decade with McLemore and his homerisms it’s finally worn off on old Grief.

  • SABERMETRICS MASTER

    QUESTION:
Would you re-sign Gomez or go for Lorenzo Cain?

    • dearmidol

      Cain. No question.

I wouldn’t resign Gomez at all.

      • elkaba

        Agree.

  • dearmidol

Director: “Cut to a close up of Gomez.”

Camera cuts to CU of Gomez.

Viewers watch as Gomez shoot boogers out of his right nostril, shoots boogers out of his left nostril, wipes his nose with his jersey, then spits.

    Got to love baseball.

    • FlappingGums

      I’m cracked up laughing!!! πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

      • dearmidol

I thought it was funny. Poor director. He’s got to be thinking, “Why did I cut to him then?”

        • FlappingGums

          Exactly!!

      • FlappingGums

I didnt see all that. Your description is hilarious!!!

  • dearmidol

Here’s a crazy notion. Please tell me if I am nuts.

Could Gallo be a centerfielder? He’s fast as heck, athletic, a really good athlete. And has a cannon for an arm.

    • elkaba

Works for me, but who’s on first?

      • dearmidol

        Hosmer, or Carlos Santana.

        • elkaba

          Ooooo! Then yes!

        • WhoKnowscs

I’d also be fine having Napoli again and stop platooning him.

          • elkaba

I think Nap’s done. At least for me.

          • elkaba

But I’d hire him as the manager if it means we adios Banister.

          • WhoKnowscs

He can be the next player manager.

        • SABERMETRICS MASTER

          Hosner !

          • WhoKnowscs

Of course you realize that all of us has jumped at the mention of Hosmer means he’ll command 20-25 mil a year for 6+ years.

          • dearmidol

That’s really interesting. I wonder if he will. I love the guy, but he seems to be under the radar.

          • WhoKnowscs

He has a world series Ring and at least one gold glove with a history of performing when it matters most.

          • dearmidol

That’s why I like him. He is clutch.

          • elkaba

We could sure use some clutch around here…

        • FlappingGums

          Yes, definitely!!!

      • WhoKnowscs

        Hosmer.

    • Rowdy Yates

I don’t see why not. But the Rangers are going to let my idol Beltre go to a contender this fall and then Gallo will be able to play 3B where he wants to be.

      • elkaba

Naw. JD will convince Beltre, the owners and himself we just need to tweak the team, not rebuild it.

        • Rowdy Yates

I don’t think Adrian’s that dumb and he’s made it clear he wants his last couple seasons on a team that can be a legit WS candidate not just a possible WC.

          • elkaba

I don’t blame him a bit. He’s done his time with this bunch.

          • dearmidol

I would hate to see him go for me. But I would love to see him go for him.

          • FlappingGums

That’s exactly how I feel about the Beltre situation.

          • dearmidol

I would think he could bring back a really nice pitcher.

    • SABERMETRICS MASTER

      Thinking Outside the Box

      Might work !

    • Gregor_S

He probably wouldn’t be bad, but the odds of Choo or Mazara running into him would be high. Kind of a scary thought, at least for them.

      • dearmidol

I’m figuring, if they have Choo at DH, Mazara in RF and Calhoun in LF, maybe you put Gallo in CF, that gives you flexibility to get a really strong 1B here.

        • Gregor_S

Well Guzman is having a good year at RR.

          • dearmidol

Yeah, that’s right. I forgot we had a prospect.

          • Gregor_S

            Yup. One.

  • grumpyderfsmagic8ball

    Gotodell Raymond

    • WhoKnowscs

He want’s to go the HP or Apple instead.

    • Rowdy Yates

I do NOT want to see him at Dell Diamond in RR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • elkaba

    Dang.

    • WhoKnowscs

The Bullpen run had to come somewhere.

  • Rowdy Yates

So why is Grilli on any Major League staff? (oh, maybe the Rangers isn’t ML) and why is Choo still kicking around any ball that comes off a wall in RF?

    • dearmidol

That was a double anyway, but it should have been three bases.

      • Rowdy Yates

I just wanted it fielded cleanly so there’s a chance to keep the run from scoring.

        • dearmidol

He is one of our three DHs.

          • Rowdy Yates

I think he’s the only one listed as DH on the Rs roster but it’s been awhile since I saw that.

          • dearmidol

I’d rather pull Fielder out of retirement to play RF than Choo.

  • dearmidol

One thing Gallo has done is made most Rangers fans forget about Mitch Moreland.

    • Rowdy Yates

      Who???

    • Gregor_S

Kind of makes me remember Chris Davis. But I’d take Gallo over him.

      • dearmidol

        I would too.

Damn I was wrong about Gallo.

        • elkaba

          Get in line.

          • dearmidol

This is why, as frustrating as the little guy is, you can’t give up on Odor. He has a lot of talent. I just hope this is a lost year.

          • dearmidol

Having said that, it’s still okay to make fun of him mercilessly until he figures it out.

          • Rowdy Yates

It’s OK. He can’t speak English let alone read it.

          • elkaba

Yep. But you can’t bet the farm on it.

          • dearmidol

Agree. Last year, in a good season, he had a pretty bad on-base percentage. They had hoped he would progress, but he’s regressed. That’s worrisome.

          • elkaba

That what happens sometimes when they come up too early.

        • Rowdy Yates

Two yrs ago ST I was touting Gallo as the next Babe Ruth after witnessing the longest HR I’d ever seen live … by a long shot. 4 months later I was asking what’s he doing on a AAA team.

          • dearmidol

            Eli predicted 80 home runs.

          • grumpyderfsmagic8ball

Are you comparing Rowdy to Eli. Lol

          • dearmidol

Ha. Do NOT put words in my mouth. At least, not those words.

          • Rowdy Yates

            :I(*&^$##K(*&#@ MidoI!!!!

          • dearmidol

Ha. Now I have to apologize to you AND to Gallo.

          • grumpyderfsmagic8ball

Eli should send you a thank you note.

          • Rowdy Yates

            STAAAAAP!

          • Rowdy Yates

….. thanks for comparing me with Eli.

          • dearmidol

Ha. I wasn’t doing that, but since you and Grumpy thought the same thing, I must have misspoke.

  • Rowdy Yates

In case we didn’t know it “The Rangers are starting to run out of outs. You just can’t help noticing that.” DR

    • dearmidol

Yeah, I heard that. Shook my head slowly.

      • Rowdy Yates

        He’s Master of the Obvious.

    • FlappingGums

Oh brother. (I roll my eyes.)

  • dearmidol

Look how big Odor’s feet are. Like clown feet.

    • FlappingGums

They’re sure big for his short size!

      • Gregor_S

        His ears too.

Now if it were his hands he might reach some of those balls he’s always diving for.

  • dearmidol

Dave Raymond just mentioned the wild card race.

    • elkaba

LOL, yeah. Said we need to go on one of those runs… sheesh.

      • dearmidol

First let’s get one of those runs.

        • FlappingGums

We should do that! <– Brilliant idea!! πŸ™‚

      • FlappingGums

Usually he irritates me crazy. Tonight I find him comical. So stupid.

        • Rowdy Yates

Pretty sure his father was Clarabell.

          • elkaba

Really? I was sure it was Goober or Gomer.

    • WhoKnowscs

Must be contractually obligated to hint at it every game and try to feed us the lie to (try to) keep us going to games. Since admitting it’s over will kill ticket sales.

      • dearmidol

Ticket sales are dying in a few weeks once high school football starts.

        • WhoKnowscs

Yep, and being 10+ under by then wont help the Rangers either.

        • elkaba

Yeah, but they want season ticket sales for next year, too.

          • WhoKnowscs

Then sign Darvish, Othani, Cobb, Britton, and get rid of Banny and Brocall. Make Napoli player/manager.

          • Gregor_S

            Just don’t make Odor player/manager.

          • WhoKnowscs

Gotta give the fans something to want to watch. Not going to happen if fans go to games knowing the starter could be throwing a no hitter but will get pulled because he hits 100 pitches with 2 outs in the 8th.

  • WhoKnowscs

LOL, Grieve talking about because Banny goes LRLR . . . that Collins is fine leaving in the lefty. so much for that making the other manager think about changing pitchers.

    • dearmidol

Yeah, I’ve noticed that in the last few weeks. Opposing managers aren’t afraid of that.

      • elkaba

        Yeah, when it’s L batting 200, R batting 200, L batting 200… it’s just not scary.

  • FlappingGums

Ramos certainly has a different wind up.

  • dearmidol

Well, since we started talking about this painful subject, as I think about it more, trading Beltre might be the best of all worlds.

Gallo has shown he can play every day now. You can take his salary and apply it to a front of the rotation pitcher. And you can trade him for a front of the rotation pitcher.

And, the Rangers got the special moments from him.

    • Rowdy Yates

I plan to attend his HOF induction so y’all know how much I revere him. But I think he deserves a shot at a WS ring … and the Rs might be able to get something of value for him.

      • dearmidol

Agree. He is one of my all-time favorite players. And his stunt of pulling the on deck circle close to him the other day might have sealed it.

I want him to get a ring.

        • Rowdy Yates

It was worth it for him to get the toss just to show up the AH ump so badly.

      • FlappingGums

I too plan to attend his HOF induction. I will cry if he leaves the Rangers. And I want him to have a WS Ring. So, if he leaves, it’s understandable and like what’s already mentioned, we could trade him for valuable pieces.
Thinking out loud – – – I’d like us to get those pieces without losing Beltre. And I prefer he gets his WS Ring with the Rangers.
        Sorry about the rambling.

        • dearmidol

That would be the best thing ever.

        • elkaba

I think we’d all want that, Flap, but that kind of thinking is why we have no more prospects and only a handful of poor showings in the playoffs to show for them. It’s time to face the music, face reality. This team, as currently constituted, isn’t going to the WS with or without Beltre. That’s just reality. And without trading someone of his value, there’s not enough cash to buy a better team to play around him. So the question becomes one of doing the right thing for him and the team. He’s got maybe 2, 3 year left on those legs, and he deserves the ring. We need to get younger, stronger and more numerous. So that’s the deal. We hang onto him and waste his last few years, or we do the right thing and send him to a contender and take back some of what we need to improve our team. It’s sad, but that’s what it is.

    • grumpyderfsmagic8ball

Nope. Beltre is a main reason to watch the Rangers. When he goes into HOF I want him in a Ranger uniform.

    • Gregor_S

I have to go with Jake on this one: it should be up to Beltre.

      • Nathan Whitten

I’m with y’all. No way I trade him unless he wants to go to someone that has a chance to win it all. We would not get equal value and he gives us a reason to pay attention to this team as he runs down all-time leaders in every major offensive category. He still plays well at the hot corner. Some team would have to offer some unreasonably good pitcher and AB has to agree. To piss off one of the best players ever as his career winds down would be worse than coming in last place.

KS: I nearly always agree with you. Not this time. There is no way someone trades a front-line starting pitcher for a 38(9?) year old 3B. THAT is a pipe dream.

        • Gregor_S

Right Nathan. Beltre wouldn’t be as valuable to another team as he is to the Rangers. You don’t become the clubhouse leader overnight. He’d still be valuable for his play of course, but given his age and the size of his contract I doubt the Rangers would get much more than a prospect or two for him.

  • Rowdy Yates

Cool your jets Raymond. Get excited if Robinson hits one.

    • WhoKnowscs

      Especially if it’s out.

  • WhoKnowscs

    lost by the bullpen run.

    • Rowdy Yates

…. or any of the previous 4 runs.

  • Rowdy Yates

Rangers now closing in on last place in AL West. Who’d a thunk it 4 months ago.

    • WhoKnowscs

Anyone that watched the Rangers play could at least see it. Even if they wouldn’t have guessed it.

  • FlappingGums

11:10am <– Time of tomorrow's game. Rangers Live will be on at 10:30 in the morning!!!

    • TD30

Oh man! I will probably miss the whole game since I will be working

      • FlappingGums

Can you record it and see it tomorrow night?

        • TD30

Yes I can. I may try to listen to it on the radio between clients.

          • FlappingGums

That would be good!!! πŸ˜€. Or, better than nothing since you’ll be at work. Can you believe it starts so very early?!?

  • TD30
    • FlappingGums

      LoL!!!

      • Gregor_S

Well he had all this time to say he was joking about Beltre, and I think even AB said he thought he had to be joking, but he never said it so I have no sympathy for him.

        • dearmidol

Yeah, I don’t get that whole ordeal. It should be obvious to him that Beltre is always joking around. He has to be incredibly stupid if he can’t read those signs.

    • elkaba

Yep. Makes it a great day despite losing. πŸ™‚
