A good read that is meat for a lot of conversation among most fans. I’m not one of them. The only trades that interest me are the current ones. Water over the dam is just that, water over the dam. It ain’t coming back.

    Good article Kevin.

Tom Grieve is probably one of the nicest guys ever in the baseball business. And one of the worst GM’s ever in the baseball business.

I was aware of many of the details, but some were eye-openers for me. I had always assumed that Young had been drafted and developed by the Rangers. Wrong. Also, I never new how close Cano came to being a Ranger. Had he been the player to be named later, the punk Kinsler would have never been the 2B. There still would have been the issue of what to do with Profar, but it would have been far easier to justify trading him when he was at the peak of his value–top prospect in MLB had Cano been the 2B at that time.. Then Odor would not have been rushed to the majors. We have witnessed his transition into far more than a decent defensive 2B; he should have a Gold Glove and I’d be willing to bet that he gets several of them. I’m thinking that there is a good chance that Cano would have been more amenable to playing 1B than punk Kinsler, hence the Fielder trade would have never happened. PTBNL are not always just throw-ins, although they are usually ignored. I have learned to wonder who they will be. It can be very significant.

Thank you for the article, Kevin.

Nobody on this site ever saw Odor even sniffing a GG award over the past few years

There are a few players I don’t ever want to see a Ranger….Cano is one of them….Cano invented the word punk

Tomorrow is the deadline for teams to round out the 40 man rosters for protection in the rule 5 draft. If a team protects a full 40 players, they do not participate in the draft.

    • JacobMcCandles

You were right about Fisters option, I had not seen that.

    • CrazyEd

It is going to be VERY interesting to see who they protect and who they don’t. After you subtract the 25 there’s only 15 slots left and I’m pretty sure the Rangers have more that 15 guys they want to protect. It’s a fun exercise in trying to predict who they will chose.

      • calntom

When a player is chosen in rule 5, they are immediately added to the 40 and have to stay on the 25 unless they are on the DL. There are DL restrictions as well.
Will be interesting to see if the Rangers have anyone unprotected that could stick on another teams 25.

I just looked and once Mathis is signed they will have only six spots left for folks that are not currently on the forty. That’s not to say they can’t drop somebody to make room.

    Tweet from TR Sullivan
The Hall of Fame ballot is out. Michael Young is on there for the first time… He is a career .300 hitter and seven-time All-Star…. Reliever Darren Oliver is also on the ballot….. Just being selected to the ballot should be considered an honor

    • JacobMcCandles

      I agree TD…don’t think he has a chance….

      • TD30

It’s a long shot, but I do like them both. Fingers crossed!

        • GoRangers23

I didn’t realize that he was going to be on the ballot. I’ve never heard anyone outside of fans talking about him in that way. I think it’s great! I wish him the best!

Since I am not quite as mobile as I was…reading has multiplied……found a quote that I felt was enriching,

    Reject your sense of injury,
    and the injury itself disappears.
Very little is needed to make a happy life,
it is all within yourself , in your way of thinking.
It is not death a man should fear, but
he should fear never beginning to live.

Skanks get Paxton…Seattle gets good players in return…..good trade for both

Swanson went to the Yanks along with Tate in the Beltran deal. Swanson mowed through AA this year and tossed 72 solid innings in AAA as well.
M’ s also got the Yanks #1 prospect pitcher.
