The Rangers have an interesting trend going this year. They lose the first game of the series and win the last one.
Of the fourteen previous series Texas has played, they have lost the first game and won the last game nine times.
Interestingly for a team that’s under .500, the Rangers have won six of its fourteen previous series and split four. So they have lost only four series all season. They lost a four-game series to the Angels in Anaheim. They were swept in a three-gamer in Oakland. They were swept in two games at Pittsburg. They were swept in four games at Houston.
If they could win that first one more often, it could be a different story for the season.
So here they are in the Cardinals series and they did the opposite. They actually won the first game, something they’ve done only twice this season. They are 1-1 in that situation, interestinly both with the Angels.
They go for the series win with Drew Smyly on the mound. The Rangers have won just one of the five games he has started this season.
It would be nice to see them reverse a few trends today.
Jack Flaherty (4-3, 4.34) vs. Drew Smyly (0-3, 6.85)
