It’s nice to see another bullpen blow up and another manager freeze. I don’t know if it would have been certain enough to overturn the HBP, but it looked like it just hit the bottom of the bat. But I’m glad it wasn’t overturned, because I didn’t even think about it until I heard the pitcher after the game say it would have been a foul tip strike out, and that just annoys me, that a batter could have been out because he couldn’t get out of the way of the pitch fast enough. I’ll take the mis-call πŸ˜€

    • dearmidol

What a comeback. Down two, then down six. It was fun to watch.

      • JacobMcCandles

Other games on….what is this? ESPN

        • WhoKnowscs

No, if it was ESPN they’d have been droning on about gun control, confederate statues, complaining about the Indians’ name, or some or liberal agenda. And the game would be auxiliary.

  • FlappingGums

  • JacobMcCandles

Appears to me that most likely the WS will be played between the Injuns and Colt 45s

  • Rowdy Yates

Couldn’t stay up late enuf last night to finish the Dodgers/DBacks but sorry to see AZ lose. Would like to see them in the WS. And also not happy seeing Puig as one of the Dodgers stars. What an absolute POS that guy is. In ST game last yr watched him argue strike calls with the ump … in ST! … and hit a couple ground balls and not run them out at all. Just slowly trotted about 15 ft down the line before veering to the dugout. The guy has zero respect for the game that’s made him a rich man. A total AHole IMO.

    • JacobMcCandles

      Yessir Agreed

    • elkaba

Looked to me like when Walker got off to a rocky start against Kershaw, Az just sort of conceded that first game without much of a fight. Walker wasn’t supposed to start Game 1, but they ran through both their #1 and #2 starters just getting there. May put up more of a fight in Game 2.

  • elkaba

Girardi layed an egg, cost NY a game. Loving it…https://sports.yahoo.com/alds-game-2-ineptitude-arrogance-yankees-manager-joe-girardi-065417891.html
Bigger question: Why can’t we find a sportswriter to tell it like it is about the Rangers?

    • JacobMcCandles

It makes a world of difference. when you agree with the with the writer

      • WhoKnowscs

The reality is the Indians are the best team in the majors, and then they have one of the top 5 best managers(the top 5 really aren’t ranked they are just a cut above). Yankees, on the other hand, have decided to try to reign in spending unlike what they use to do.

        • JacobMcCandles

Yanks played it smart…competed for post season and reloaded. Astros have better offense than Cleveland, Cleveland better SPs…BP is a tie. For me its a wash, team wise

          • WhoKnowscs

You don’t win 22 games in a row and not be the best.

          • JacobMcCandles

            Reg season means nothing now

      • dearmidol

        Always agree with the writer.

        • JacobMcCandles

          LO

      • elkaba

It’s not the writer, it’s what he writes. Not much you can disagree with in Passan’s piece. Girardi would have been well advised to make the challenge. It was a no lose situation and could have saved all those runs that followed. No matter who writes it.

        • JacobMcCandles

Haha…..Relax elkeroo it was humor. No posting to the avatar

          • elkaba

Didn’t need an avatar to know who wrote that.

          • JacobMcCandles

            Yes Mam

    • WhoKnowscs

The Texas Rangers and New York Yankees have decided to trade Jeff Banister and Joe Girardi, we’ll see if anyone notices any difference.

    • dearmidol

      Wow, what an honest review.

    • WhoKnowscs
    • dearmidol

Right after I read this, I was in my car and the MLB Network Radio guys were talking about it, really saying much of the same thing, that Girardi screwed up and his explanation made zero sense. I remember in Banister’s first year when he pulled Martin Perez from a game where he had like 80 pitches in the ninth with one out and was cruising with a 3-0 lead.
The bullpen (Scheppers) proceeded to give upon two runs and had the tying run at third when the game ended, barely getting out of it. Banister, post-game, said that since Martin Perez had recently come off the DL, they were limiting his pitch count, forgetting that in his previous start five days early, his first start since coming off the DL, he had gone more pitches than that. I guess managers hate admitting mistakes like most people.

  • dearmidol

Anyone notice who’s in the playoffs: Leonys Martin, Mitch Moreland, Adam Rosales.

    • WhoKnowscs

Dillon Gee was in the wild card, so was Lucroy,

But most of the exRangers were on the losing teams =(.

    • JacobMcCandles

As I surmised Kershaw would implode….just had the bigger lead this time. Nats continue the decade of underperformance

      • WhoKnowscs

My opinion of the Nationals was made a few years back in an NLDS game. In the 9th inning, the Nationals have the lead and with 2 outs left in the game(I think it was only 2 outs) their starter is still in and walks a batter. Despite him having like 18 straight outs prior to the walk the Nationals run to the pen. 2 batters later the game is tied. 8-9 innings after that the game ends and the Giants win.

        • JacobMcCandles

Scott Borass hurt their biggest chance when he manipulated their FO to taking down Strasberg for the year

          • WhoKnowscs

Yeah, that innings limit crap was another nail in their coffin. It just boils down to following artificial limits over what the game calls for, Banny is an expert in this area too!

        • dearmidol

Yep, managers continue to break the cardinal rule that you never take out a dominating pitcher. Our manager is one of the biggest culprits.

  • JacobMcCandles

TD….where are you? Sooners need our help!!!!!

    • WhoKnowscs

      OU scores.

      • WhoKnowscs

The screw up on 3rd and 8 that let to a 40-50 yard TD pass sealed there fate.

    • Rowdy Yates

Mediocre UT beats Iowa St in Ames and Iowa St beats OU in Norman. Hilarious. As always Big 12 will beat up each other and SEC will win the Championship … unless A&M can upset Bama today.

      • WhoKnowscs

The same A&M that I think gave up the biggest deficit to lose in NCAA football history vs UCLA?

        • Rowdy Yates

Didn’t say they WOULD win … said “if” they “upset”. And with their offense they could.

What’s the biggest deficit ever???? I know Maryland came back from 31 down yrs ago to beat somebody but don’t remember who.

          • JacobMcCandles

Bet on the Ags today….but yep Big 12’s budget for players not as large SEC

          • WhoKnowscs

Aggies had a 44-10 lead about half way through the third . . . they gave up 7 in the 3rd and 28 in the 4th to lose 45-44

          • FlappingGums

            πŸ™

          • WhoKnowscs

That Aggies game was 3-4 weeks ago.

          • FlappingGums

Oh – I thought you meant today. I didn’t see today’s game. Did you? Or is it tonight?

          • WhoKnowscs

it’s about to come on ESPN.

  • dearmidol

If the Nationals lose this one, going to Chicago down 2-0 is going to be difficult.

  • JacobMcCandles

Overrated madman Maddon screws the pooch…..Lester pulled after 86 pitches…smart guy but he thinks he is smarter than the game a la Laboozer

    • JacobMcCandles

Not saying Wash is better but he said something once that should be tattooed on all MGRs butts….let the game dictate what. U do

      • WhoKnowscs

A shame Wash didn’t always follow what he said.

    • dearmidol

Yeah, I thought the same thing when that happened. Over-managing.

When will managers start trusting their pitchers?

  • WhoKnowscs

Oh boy! A sac bunt from the pitcher how original!

  • dearmidol

I know the Dodgers had such a great season, but I would be okay if the Diamondbacks won.

    • WhoKnowscs

      ABD?
      Anyone but Dodgers?

  • JacobMcCandles

Back in the ER……lung power is pretty bad,,,see ya on this side or the other

    • elkaba

What? Somebody needs to figure out what’s going on in there! This has gone on long enough. Hope you get it sorted soon and feel better!

    • FlappingGums

Oh no!! Please be okay really soon! God Bless.

  • JacobMcCandles
    • dearmidol

Awesome song. That is really moving.

  • dearmidol

If the Dodgers hold on to this lead, Darvish pitches Monday for the series sweep.

    • elkaba

      Not looking good for AZ.

      • WhoKnowscs

        Don’t have pitching beyond Grienke.

  • azrangerfan

Tough thing to admit and I just don’t believe JD has ever admitted it but if you look up and down the line ups of any team in the playoffs, the Rangers just don’t match up talent wise. The Rangers have a long way to go before they are back to an elite status. Position/hitting wise and pitching wise.

    • elkaba

Yep. Pretty obvious we aren’t playoff level.

      • azrangerfan

Not even close. Right now we are at best a 500 team.

        • elkaba

But every year JD says the same thing- little help here or there and we’re right back in it. Just wish he’d admit where we are. The big club is full of holes and there’s nothing left in the minors that’s coming to help.

          • azrangerfan

The sad thing is it’s not a strong fan base like the Cubs. If this team doesn’t win will be lucky to draw 2 mil per year.

          • elkaba

Well fans are generally more understanding if a team is honest I think. If we’re rebuilding that’s one thing. Lots of folks will come out and support a team of youngsters hoping they develop into something special. But with JD it’s getting to be kind of like fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice and I’m wasting my time and money on this stuff year after year.
We have a NL-type manager and some pretty inexperienced coaches, and that’s not working.
We blew most of our big chips on the likes of Fielder and Choo, and that hasn’t worked.
We blew our best prospects on trades like Hamels and Lucroy, and that didn’t work.
We’ve regularly signed veterans, Perzynski and Beltran and Napoli and Gomez, among others, and that has yet to put us over the top.
So now it’s run out and try to sign one Japanese kid, who should probably play in the NL anyway, add a few other leftovers here and there and try it again. Not a lot to get excited about.

          • azrangerfan

The trade involving Tex for Andrus and others is what helped put the Rangers in the playoffs. There really isn’t anyone on the team that could bring the type of return Tex did except for maybe Perez. He’s LH and had a pretty good year. Could probably trade him for a handful of prospects but he could be the #1 on the team next year. So short of free agency and big $$$ being spent I just don’t see how JD will make the team competitive next year. IMO it’s time to clean the slate and start over again, which includes a new manager.

          • elkaba

I think a lot of fans know that, too. Looking back, I think the Fielder and Choo deals pretty much sealed the fate of this franchise for a while. The crazy thing is if we had admitted that, traded Darvish and/or Beltre, even Profar back then, paid someone to take Choo and started over, we’d have likely been back where we were in 2010 by now.

          • azrangerfan

Totally agree. You just can’t sustain long term success with 1 year contracts for aging veterans and picking over the junk heap pile for possible diamonds.

          • elkaba

And look at our coaching staff. The Diamondbacks have 2 experienced ML managers backing up their less experienced manager. Then look at what we have. No comparison.

          • elkaba

            Correction, meant AZ coaching staff.

          • azrangerfan

As far as fans go, I believe a very large percentage of fans jump on the band wagon when a team is winning. They don’t pay much attention to what the GM is doing or saying they are there only because the team is winning. I can see attendance dropping to less than 20,000 avg per game very fast. Total attendance dropping to less than 1.5 mil for the year. If the team is not competitive the fans will stay away.

          • dearmidol

And that means, they cut the budget because there’s no revenue. And that means a worse team on the field. And that means fewer fans in the stands. And that means they cut the budget more.

          • azrangerfan

A viscous cycle for sure. The fans want a winner. Very few die hard fans like the few of us on here. For example how many more posters do you think would be on here if the Rangers were in the playoffs?

          • dearmidol

Last year we had a ton of them.

          • azrangerfan

Yep and those that are gone are gone. They’re not following what is happening during the off season. Some will be back for the new season and if the team isn’t winning they’ll be gone in a heart beat.

    • dearmidol

      Long way to go, indeed.

  • elkaba

This is turning into a real game!

    • dearmidol

It is. Some good old fashioned offense.

    • azrangerfan

So nice to watch a game and see pro hitters. Hitters that swing for contact and line drives.

  • dearmidol

Dodgers desperation. Bringing in the closer for more than on inning.

It’s amazing how delicate closers have become when you worry about them getting more than three outs.

    • azrangerfan

They do wear the kid gloves with these guys. So concerned they are going to get hurt and those big contract $$$$ get wasted.

  • dearmidol

    Another good day of baseball.
