40-man: Brett de Geus.

A continuing look at the Rangers 40-man roster:

BRETT DE GEUS
Age: 23
Right-Handed Pitcher

The Rangers plucked right-handed reliever Brett de Geus in the Rule 5 Draft from the Dodgers.

They have to keep the thirty-third round pick in 2016 on the Rangers 25-man roster in 2021, or return him back to the Dodgers. In his two seasons in Los Angeles’s system, he hasn’t pitched above A-Level, mostly out of the pen. In 54 games, de Geus’s ERA is 4.51 with 130 strikeouts in 123 innings.

But he had a nice 2019, going 6-2 with a 1.75 ERA and a sparkling 0.941 WHIP in both Single-A and A-Plus.

That’s pretty dominating.

Of course, Single-A is a long way from the major leagues. But de Geus shows a lot of promise. Being a Rule 5 pick means he will get the chance to show that promise with the big league club.
