A losing season.

Max Scherzer’s season ends on the I.L.

And with yesterday’s loss to Seattle, the Rangers suffered their eighty-second loss of the season.

They will not finish over .500.

The Rangers will join an inglorious list of, now, eleven teams to finish under .500 the year after winning the World Series.

Yesterday was a perfect encapsulation of the season. Max Scherzer was supposed to get the start but he came down with a hamstring pull before the game and was placed on the IL. He will not pitch again this year.

It’s doubtful he will pitch with the Rangers again. A forty-year-old free agent pitcher who is injured more than he pitches isn’t going to be in hot pursuit this offseason.

Dane Dunning filled in for him, nearly made it through four innings, left with a 2-2 tie, and the Rangers bullpen cratered again in an 8-4 loss.

Just seven games remain. Then this miserable season will come to a merciful end.
