It was a night of firsts.
The first time Texas played in Sacramento, the new and temporary home of the Athletics.
The first time the Rangers scored more than six runs in a game in 2025.
The first time Josh Jung walked in 2025.
The first time the Rangers hit four home runs in a game in 2025.
The first time Bruce Bochy shook up the lineup, leading off with Josh Smith, who homered and scored twice, and moving Marcus Semien to the fifth slot for the first time. He went 22-for-3 with four RBIs.
It was the first time since June of last year that Patrick Corbin went three starts in a row without a loss.
And the first time a Ranger has gone more than 40 consecutive at-bats without a hit. Joc Pederson entered the game 0-for-his-last-38. He went 0-for-3, breaking the Rangers franchise record of 39 consecutive hitless at-bats set way back in 2024 by Justin Foscue.
The only bad news was Corey Seager leaving with tightness in his hamstring. This will not be the first time he misses games.
But the offense coming to live was a welcome sight. Bruce Bochy shook up the lineup, leading off with Josh Smith for the first time this year. He played center for the first time in his career. He dropping Marcus Semien to fifth, the first time he batted there as a Ranger. He drove in four runs for the first time this year.
If the Rangers can keep hitting like this, they will stay in first.
