Adios Adolis?

Texas Rangers Slugger Contender to Land ...

The Rangers just completed the best three games offensively of the year. They scored eleven runs on Friday and eight on Sunday. They got hits with two outs. They played small ball. They had sustained rallies. For three games, at least, they looked like the team everyone expected them to be, even though they were shut out in the middle of the three games.

One constant in all of this was Adolis Garcia. He was on the bench the entire time. Was it a coincidence that his absence led to the Rangers offense coming alive?

This might be the beginning of the end of his time with the Rangers. If so, they are trying to let him down easily.

Garcia’s struggles aren’t confined to this year. Yes, his chase rate at pitches out of the strike zone this year is the highest of his career. And his .371 slugging percentage is his career worst.

But it goes beyond that. Since the beginning of 2024, Garcia’s OPS is .670, which ranks 116 out of the 129 players with enough at-bats to qualify.

Rangers’ manager Bruce Bochy has stated they have a plan for Garcia. He said they will give Garcia time to get his head right, to make the adjustments needed to get back on track. He added that there is no timeline for this, implying Garcia might be out for a while.

Exactly how he is going to get there, where he is going to get those at-bats, they haven’t said.

But, with the emergence of Alejandro Osuna, whose on-base-percentage is bordering on .500, and with Evan Carter due off the I.L. today, Garcia doesn’t have a place if he’s not producing.

If this is the beginning of the end for Garcia, Rangers fans owe him a huge debt of gratitude for carrying this team on his shoulders through the 2023 playoffs and into the first few games of the World Series.

This team was build to win. With Garcia or without him,
