Bats go silent again.

Wyatt Langford provided the Rangers offense with a solo-homer.

It came. It went. Nothing happened.

The Rangers pretty much sat out this year’s trade deadline. Last year, they transformed the team with Aroldis Chapman, Jordan Montgomery, and Max Scherzer.

This year, they swapped a lackluster backup catcher for a better backup catcher (but still, a backup catcher) and picked up two bullpen arms.

What they needed was a bat.

So, they go into their first game after the deadline, the first game without getting the bat they needed, and they scored one run last night on just four hits.

They needed a bat and didn’t get one.

Maybe Chris Young’s hands were tied. Maybe he was told he couldn’t add any payroll. There has to be a reason he didn’t address the single-most glaring weakness this team has.

Yes, they got Josh Jung back, and he is an offensive threat. But wrist injuries are challenging. Will he come back with any sort of power? Even so, they could still use a bona fide hitter. You can’t put all this on Jung’s shoulders.

First, the trade deadline went quietly into the night. Then, the Rangers did.
