Patrick Corbin pitched like Patrick Corbin pitches. Last year’s leader in hits given up and earned runs allowed picked up where he left off by letting Texas’s 2-0 lead evaporate, allowing three runs in the bottom of the second.
Chris Martin pitched like Chris Martin doesn’t usually pitch. It wasn’t as bad as it looked. He gave up four runs, but none were earned. Unearned runs matter only to a player’s agent or his parents, though. But he wasn’t able to put away batters to prevent his team’s errors from mattering.
The Rangers came into the game having committed only four errors this season, the best in baseball. They committed three tonight.
Yes, the Rangers lost their second game in a row for the first time this year. But they scored six runs, which is the most they’ve scored in a game. So, there was that bit of good news. Bad news? Wyatt Langford left the game for an MRI.
Good news? They picked up their season-high twelve hits, fueled by the return of Josh Jung, who singled, doubled, and tripled.
That’s the frustration of baseball. They score one run a game twice and win. The offense breaks out, the defense disappears. They get back one of their offensive threats, another one goes out.
So, the Rangers lose their first series of the years. Now, they try to avoid getting swept. Let’s hope the bats continue, and the gloves return.
