Cold as ice.

Josh Jung makes a rare trip off the I.L. to join the Rangers offense tonight.

It was 35 degrees at game time. Below freezing once the sun went down. And even colder at the Ranger bat rack.

It’s not suprising the worst offensive team in baseball was shut out last night 7-0 at a frigid Wrigley Field in Chicago. What’s suprising is that it was the first time this team has been shutout. Twice they scored one run in a game. Somehow, they won both of those.

But you cannot blame the cold. The Cubs carved out ten hits in the same miserable conditions, and scored seven runs with them.

The top three in the Rangers lineup were 0-for-9. The five, six, seven and eight spots in the lineup were 0-for-11. Only Adolis Garcia and Kyle Higashioka got hits, Adolis one, Kyle two.

Three lousy singles is all this ice-cold offense could eke out. Semien is hitting .125. Seager: .161. Garcia: .176. Burger: .105Taveras: .179. Joc Pederson: .107.

Josh Jung returns to the lineup tonight. But he’s more like a guest host. He’s here only temporarily until his next injury. The hope is he kickstarts this offense. and maybe he will. Jung was 3-for-7 before his latest injury. Texas is going to have to find some offense in a hurry. After all, Patrick Corbin makes his Rangers debut tonight. He passes out offense like the most popular house at Halloween passed out candy.

Eventually this team is going to hit. Hopefully it’s this season.
