Finally, Blaine Crim is getting his shot.
He’s twenty-eight. He’s been toiling away in the Rangers system for six seasons, ever since they drafted him in the nineteenth round of the 2019 draft.
Some guys are victims of the stigma of being drafted in a late round, just like others are the beneficiaries of getting chance after chance to fail if they were drafted in the first round.
But all Crim has done is hit. He hit .295 in Frisco Double-A in 2022, with 24 homers and 95 RBIs. That’s a great season, worthy of being looked at. Instead, he was overlooked.
In 2023 at Round Rock, Crim his .290, with 22 home runs and 85 RBIs. That’s a great season, worthy of being looked at. Instead, he was overlooked.
Last year, he put up great numbers again at Triple-A: he batted .277 with 20 homers and 86 RBIs. That’s a great season, worthy of being looked at. Instead, he was overlooked.
They kid can hit. He’s at .313 in Triple-A right now. And finally, finally, finally, he is no longer being overlooked.
Jake Burger is the first underachieving Ranger hitter to lose his job. He has been sent down to Triple-A to figure out how to hit. Let’s hope he is the first of many.
Blaine Crim will be taking Burger’s place at first. He’s getting his long-overdue chance.
Welcome to the major leagues, Blaine. There is absolutely no pressure on you. All you have to do is contribute to this offense. A walk would do the trick.
