Tommy Edman hits a two-run homer to seal his MVP award.
Like it or not, it’s the Yankees and the Dodgers in the World Series. It’s good to see the high payroll teams have a chance for once.
This World Series will feature the two probably league MVPs in the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani and the Yankees Aaron Judge.
But both teams are loaded with offense. In addition to Ohtani, the Dodger have All-Stars Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Teoscar Hernandez. Beyond Judge, the Yankees have Juan Soto, Giancarlo Stanton, and Anthony Rizzo.
But it’s always the unsung heroes who come through.
Ohtani didn’t win the MVP for the Championship Series. It wasn’t Betts or Freeman. It was Tommy Edman. So often it’s guys scrappy, under-the-radar guys like that who step up an have a moment of their lifetime.
Edman was a trade deadline pickup when the Dodgers were desperate for a shortstop. They just wanted someone they could plug in on defense.
All he did was drive in eleven runs in the six-game series, including two in his first at-bat last night with a double, then two more in his second at-bat with a home run. The Mets never recovered.
The World Series starts Friday in Los Angeles.
