Futility.

The Rangers didn’t even get a runner to 2B last night.

Shut out by the Pirates.

Shut out by a starting pitcher who, in his last two starts gave up fifteen earned runs in nine total innings.

And not just shut out, shut down. Only three hits. Three singles. Not even a walk. Not even a runner to second base.

This was the Rangers offense in a nutshell. After two straight victories, they simply don’t have the firepower to sustain it.

Make no mistake. The Pirates aren’t a juggernaut and neither is Mitch Keller, their starter.

But this disappearing Rangers offense would make any starter suddenly take on Cy Youngesque qualities.
