Garcia down.

Adolis Garcia is dealing with an injured oblique.

The Adolis Garcia redemption tour is going to take a detour. Garcia was scratched from today’s game due to an injured left oblique.

He will get an MRI to determine the scope of the injury. But Rangers manager Bruce Bochy has already admitted he’s going to miss some time. Whether he’s ready for opening day remains to be seen.

Oblique injuries are tricky. They take a while to heal, and they never seem to be all the way healed once a player returns to action.

Does a sustained injury to Garcia give prospect Alejandro Osuna a chance? He is putting up monster numbers. Yes, they are spring training numbers, but Wyatt Langford did the same thing last year and forced his way into the Ranger lineup.

After going 2-for-3 today with a double, the twenty-two-year-old outfielder is hitting .444 with an OPS of 1.167. Yes, those are spring training numbers. But the other day, Bochy was raving about Osuna and his ability to always barrel up the ball.

You hate for an injury to be the reason a guy gets a shot. But you love it when young guys get their shot.

Here’s hoping Garcia’s injury is brief and Osuna forces his way into the Rangers lineup anyway.
