He’s back.

Max Scherzer was brilliant through five innings in his first start of 2024.

Max Scherzer’s first start of the season couldn’t have gone any better.

Five innings. No runs. One hit. No walks. Four strikeouts. He got a W in his first start, the Rangers won 4-0, and they’ve now won four games in a row, tying their longest winning streak of the season. It comes after a five-game losing streak.

Even better, the Rangers got hits up and down their lineup. They collected ten hits total, with Seager, Lowe, and Taveras each getting two.

Could this be the beginning of the Rangers digging themselves out of the huge hole they fell into in May and June?

They have a long way to go to be in the wild card hunt. Longer to even consider having a shot at the division.

But the last four games (five, really, even though the bullpen collapsed in the 7-6 loss to the Mets last Tuesday), the Rangers offense has started to come around.

Now, with Scherzer in a rotation (cross our collective fingers it will last more than a few games) that includes Eovaldi, Gray, Lorenzen, and Heaney, the Rangers might just be getting back their swagger.
