Maybe Jack Leiter isn’t ready for the major leagues, but he is ready for a nickname.
The rookie has now appeared in eight major league games, and has allowed multiple earned run in each.
Last night was the fourth time in eight appearances has allowed five or more earned runs in a game. He allowed six last night to earn his third loss of the season.
In a Jacob deGrom start that really qualifies as an opener, the former two-time Cy Young winner logged three innings, leaving the game trailing 1-0. The Rangers scored two runs in the fourth, then Leiter did his magic, and Seattle scored three in the fifth, two in the seventh, and two more in the eighth.
It’s early, but Leiter is starting to earn a nickname.
Jack Leiter Fluid.
Seems appropriate.
