Jack Leiter pitched six innings yesterday, giving up three runs. That is officially a quality start: six innings or more, three earned runs or fewer.
This should be enough of a good spring training to earn Leiter a slot in the Rangers rotation, even if temporarily until Cody Bradford comes back, or Patrick Corbin is ready.
He did, however, give up eleven hits in those six innings. And, according to Evan Grant in The Dallas Morning New, Royals hitters went 4-for-6 off him when he had them in an 0-2 count. That’s not good.
But he kept the Rangers in the game, even though it was a pretend game, with pretend results.
That might have to do for now.
