It would appear Adolis Garcia’s walk-off homer actually wasn’t the offensive catalyst Rangers fans were hoping for.
After that dramatic last-swing-of-the-game win on Saturday, the Rangers were shutout 1-0 on Sunday. All they could manage was five hits. Five singles.
They got a runner to third. It took until the eighth inning for that. But Josh Smith was stranded there along with the Rangers hopes of scoring.
Texas was shut out in two of three games to the Dodgers. They could have easily won all three. And if it wasn’t for Garcia’s home run, they could have easily lost all three.
So, you can look at the current state of the Rangers in one of two ways. They almost swept the best team ever assembled (as so many talking heads anointed this Dodgers team) so they are just about a click away from being as good as the Dodgers. Or, they weren’t good enough to compete with the Dodgers, winning one game on a fluke.
Really, both scenarios have merit. The Rangers bats need to start waking up. If they do, this is an elite team. If they don’t, this will be another lost season like last year.
