Phillies staring down impossible.

Philadelphia is trying to prevent Dusty Baker from earning his first World Series ring.

Just by being in the World Series, Philadelphia proved it can do impossible. They beat the Braves in the first round when absolutely nobody gave them a chance to do that. They beat the Padres in the second round when absolutely nobody gave them a chance to do that.

And they went up 2-1 over the Astros in the World Series when absolutely nobody gave them a chance to even win one game.

So, now, down in the World Series three-games-to-two, the Phillies head to Houston to try to do the impossible once more. Beat the Astros twice in their home ballpark. Facing an almost unbeatable Framber Valdez.

This has been a wonderful World Series. We’ve seen the Phillies overcome a five-run deficit to beat Justin Verlander. We’ve seen a five-homer game by the Phillies. We’ve seen the Astros pitching dominate the Phillies by not allowing a single hit. And Game 5 was a nine-inning nailbiter punctuated by breathtaking defense.

Let’s hope for the sake of baseball, this Series goes seven games. It’s too early for baseball to end for 2022.

All the Phillies have to do is pull impossible out of their hats. Two more times.
