Picking up deGrom.

This team is on a roll. When they don’t hit, they win. When Jacob deGrom shows he’s human, they win.

Staked with a 4-0 lead, deGrom usually puts it in overdrive and cruises. Instead, he gave up a run in the third, and three more in the sixth, an inning he couldn’t get out of.

But Wyatt Langford hit a two-run homer in the sixth and the Rangers bullpen was, once again, brilliant, as the Big Three of Robert Garcia, Chris Martin, and Luke Jackson shut down the Rays, keeping them to the four runs deGrom let in.

The last time deGrom allowed more than two runs in a game was his first start with the Rangers, on opening day of 2023, when he allowed five earned runs to the Phillies. The Rangers won that game 11-7.

Right now everything is working for Texas. When they don’t hit, they get brilliant pitching. When they don’t pitch, they hit. Everyone is picking up the other guy.

They are going to need that to continue today when Kumar Rocker, the only starting pitcher with a loss, takes the mound with his 18.00 ERA. That’s a heavy number for his teammates to pick up.
