Where did that Kumar Rocker come from? And can he stay around a bit?
Maybe it was facing the White Sox. Whatever, Kuman Rocker tossed five scoreless innings and picked up his second major league win. It was all so unlikely.
He had just been jettisoned back to Triple-A after giving up five earned runs in three innings against the Rays on June 4. This came after giving up five earned runs in less than two innings his previous start against the Athletics.
His ERA was at 8.87. In his nine previous tries, he had never had a big league starts in which he didn’t give up a run.
They sent him down because he had a lot more to work on. But, when Tyler Mahle suddenly became human and he went on the I.L., the Rangers already thin rotation was desperate for a starter.
That desperation led them to bringing back Rocker. He almost didn’t make it through the fifth, having to endure cramping and forcing down five bottle of pickle juice to get through.
It was Rocker’s best major league start. With Mahle and Eovalid being down, he will get more. Let’s hope he brings this game with him.
And a jug or two of pickle juice.
