Rangers games to be streamed on Victory.

The messy divorce between Bally and the Texas Rangers is almost finalized. The Rangers announced yesterday they will hook up with Victory+, the streaming service started by the Dallas Stars, who also were victims of Bally’s bankruptcy.

Unlike the Stars, though, the Rangers will not be offering viewership on Victory for free. Victory+ is an app for available on your smart TV and computer. There will be an annual subscription fee to watch Rangers games. The Dallas Morning News reported that the Rangers are still considering putting together a package to allow free over-the-air broadcasts (you know, how they used to do it), for some games.

It’s all too early to know exactly where fans will be able to watch Rangers games, but the encouraging thing is, we will be able to. The last two seasons, since Bally had a feud with local cable companies, very few fans could watch their games. When their parent company declared bankruptcy last year, it lost the rights to control Rangers broadcasts.

The Rangers, as a result, lost tens of millions of dollars, eating into their payroll last year and their ability to properly stock a roster to defend their 2023 championship.

Hopefully, this new agreement with Victory, and any other announcements to go with it, will start to bring the Rangers whole again on their broadcast revenues and not give them the excuse for failing to fill the necessary holes to compete.
