Shocking news.

The Rangers celebrate Jonah Heim’s walk-off single in a 4-3 sweep of the Rays.

The Texas Rangers have the best ERA in the American League, at 2.93.

Please let this sink in for a moment. Do yourself a favor and re-read that first sentence.

Now, read it again. Once more for the fun of it.

This might be the first time in the history of the universe that that sentence has been written.

A team that has lost three members of the rotation to injury—Jon Gray, Cody Bradford, and Jack Leiter, has the best starter’s ERA in the American League at 2.63.

A team that totally reconstructed its bullpen and came into the season without a closer is leading all of baseball in saves, with six.

A team that has rarely been known as a threat on the basepaths is leading the American League in steals, tied with Boston at fourteen.

And a team that signed Joc Pederson and traded for Jake Burger to beef up an offense that struggled with the fastball in 2024 is last in all of baseball in batting average, at .192.

The first three series of 2025 are completed, the Rangers won two and swept one. Their 8-2 start is the second-best in franchise history. In 1989 and 2011 they started 9-1. In 1996 and 2012 they started 8-2.

It’s a long season. There are bound to be ups and downs, bound to be streaks where they cannot seem to win a game. But, good teams limit how long those streaks are. And good teams stock up on wins to weather those storms.

At 8-2, the Rangers are the best team in the American League. Imagine what would happen if they started hitting?

And have you heard they have the best ERA in the American League?
