Two in a row. It’s almost like a winning streak. The Rangers scored nine runs in the last two games. With their pitching, that’s a recipe for winning.
It’s good to see Marcus Semien starting to crawl out of the deep hole he dug himself into. And it was good to see Evan Carter pick up three hits.
And maybe the offense is turning the corner. But you can’t get too excited about this team because every time they do this, they turn around and revert to their frustrating, boring offense.
You can’t trust them. It’s no wonder. The Rangers have actually been getting worse.
According to Texas Rangers.com, when the Rangers dismissed their hitting coach Donnie Ecker on May 5, they ranked 25th in slugging (.359), 26th in batting average (.228), 28th in on-base percentage (.285), 29th in runs (113) and 29th in walk rate (6.7%).
One month later, how are they doing? Texas now ranks 28th in slugging (.353), 29th in batting average (.220), 29th in on-base percentage (.282), 28th in runs (217) and 27th in walk rate (7.2%).
It’s too early to say Boone has been a bust. But it’s not too early to say, this wasn’t Donnie Eckers fault.
Again, the Rangers are showing signs of life the last two games. That’s encouraging.
Do it for a week, ten day, two weeks, then we can talk. Until then, the numbers don’t lie.
A bad offense is getting worse.
