The Guardians win on a suicide squeeze. You gotta love baseball.
David Fry hits a go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the sixth to put Cleveland up 4-3 in Detroit.
Then, in the top of the ninth, with the score still tied 4-3, the Guardians had runners at first and third with one out and David Fry up again.
This time, he didn’t go long. He went short. On the very first pitch, he laid down a bunt. The runner at third broke for home and slid in safely for their fifth run of the game. It turns out, that run was huge.
The Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the ninth off the previously unhittable Emmanuel Clase.
But the Guardians kept the series alive by keeping the Tigers from scoring another ninth-inning run, sending the series back to Cleveland for Game 5.
All because of a bunt. You gotta love baseball.
