The impossible dream.

The Rangers have lost their only offensive threat.

The impossible just got impossibler. It was going to take a miracle for the Rangers to make up enough ground to win the A.L. West, or to win enough games while the teams ahead of them lost in order to sneak into a wild card slot.

Then, they lost Marcus Semien and Evan Carter. Then they lost Nathan Eovaldi. Then, the final nail, they lost Corey Seager.

The Rangers have run out of gas. In third, six-and-a-half games behind the Astros in their division and four-and-a-half games behind Seattle, with Kansas City ahead of them to even get to Seattle, the Rangers sliver of hope was shut down with an appendectomy.

Corey Seager was the only offense the Rangers could count on. Yes, Rowdy Tellez and Joc Pederson were showing signs of life. And Adolis Garcia, maybe. But they have been few and far between with their production.

Seager is the one constant, the lone ray of sunshine. With his light extinguished, they just don’t have enough firepower to mount a near impossible comeback.’

Maybe it’s for the better. Hope is a dangerous thing. The wings have fallen off, so just land the plane safely, and refuel for next year.

Fittingly, it’s a frustrating end to a frustrating season.
