The opposite of relief.

Jose Leclerc to i.l. with shoulder ...
Jose Leclerc is the opposite of relief.

Baseball is the most unpredictable of sports. If you don’t believe that, explain Jose Leclerc.

He started 2023 as the Rangers closer but quickly lost that job. The Rangers bullpen was historically bad. It was a blown save just waiting to be called in from the bullpen. And Leclerc was the poster boy of blown saves. He was unreliable. If you wanted to have a chance at winning, you left him to of it.

Yet somehow, some impossibly impossible way, he woke up from his coma in October and was absolutely dominating, becoming one of the main reasons why the Rangers won the World Series.

As horrible as he was during the regular season, he was equally amazing in the post-season.

Then 2024 arrived. It took him five games to prove that October was a fluke. He lost his closer job with after losing for the second time just eleven games into the season.

He is a trainwreck. For the second time in his last four outings, Leclerc gave up three runs and, in the process, buried his team’s chance to come back.

This disappointing season has shown the Rangers that they have a lot of holes to fill for next year. Not having Leclerc and his 4.97 ERA in the bullpen will at least prevent the huge holes he puts his teams in whenever he pitches.

Thanks for October, Jose Leclerc. Beyond that, thanks for nothing.
