The ugly question.

Jon Gray’s worst start of the year follows Nathan Eovaldi’s.

Fourteen runs. Twenty-two hits.

That’s a week’s worth of offense for the Rangers. They gave it up to the Mets in just nine innings.

And all of the sudden, the unthinkable is happening. All season long, the offense has been missing but the starting pitching has carried the team.

Rangers fans kept asking, what happens if the offense finally shows up? Rangers fans were too afraid to ask the opposite question. The ugly question. What happens if the starting pitching fails?

For the second game in a row, these rock solid, reliable Rangers starters have gotten bombed. First Nate Eovaldi on Sunday, then Jon Gray on Monday.

And, all of the sudden, the unthinkable rears its ugly head. If the rotation comes back down to earth, this team is doomed.

They cannot score more than two runs per game. But at least there was always the possibility the rotation would hold the other team to one run.

If that fails, it’s season over in June.
