All the momentum the Rangers had built up after beating after their five-game winning streak is gone.
Four of those games were gimmes. Anyone and everyone beats the White Sox.
Take away Chicago and Texas is 1-5 after the break. Yes, they are officially 5-5 after the break. But they are not competitive.
Being swept by last place Toronto told the Rangers front office everything it needed to know about the Rangers. This team they have assembled is not good enough to win.
That doesn’t mean they can’t win the division. But until they get to .500, they are irrelevant. If Chris Young thinks they can win it, they need bats. Yes, Josh Jung will come back eventually, maybe within the next one to sixty days. But one guy is not the savior. They need an offensive threat. They don’t have that right now. And they don’t have that on their current roster.
The only way they are going to get that is by trading for it. The next two days will tell Rangers fans all they need to know about how much Chris Young believes in this team. And, really, how much we Rangers fans should believe in it.
