The clearest glimpse of the 2025 Texas Rangers happened in the ninth inning of yesterday’s 3-2 loss to the Giants.
One team was able to capitalize. One wasn’t.
In the Rangers top half of the ninth, with the scored tied 2-2, Marcus Semien led off with a single, then Jonah Heim singled him to second.
Two on, no outs.
Kyle Higashioka failed to bunt them over, popping out meekly to the catcher. Josh Smith struck out. Joc Pederson struck out.
First two runners on, no one budged, no runs scored.
In the bottom of the ninth for the Giants, Heliot Ramos singled, then LaMonte Wade walked.
Two on, no outs.
It was then the Giants’ turn to try a sacrifice bunt. Theirs was successful, moving the runner to third. A single brought him home.
The Rangers failed to execute. The Giants succeeded. All Texas was able to muster were two sac flies, both by Jake Burger, for two runs.
Until they prove otherwise, this is a team with an anemic offense and there doesn’t seem to be any end in sight.
