Just like starting over. 224 comments

Since a four-strikeout game on June 3, Rougned Odor is 11-for-34, with seven of this hits going for extras bases.

On opening day, Rougned Odor hit two home runs. He promptly went into hibernation for two months.

He had his second two-home-run game last night against the Astros. This about a week after having a four-strikeout night against them at the Ballpark, leaving eight runners stranded.

Let’s hope with this two-homer-game, he doesn’t disappear until September.

With their fifth improbably win in a row, the Rangers have a chance to sweep the Astros.

They are now back to .500 once again. Back to square one. Back to zero.

Let’s hope they don’t come back down to reality for a while.

*****
TODAY’S GAME:

Andrew Cashner (3-5, 3.17) vs. Francis Martes (0-0, 9.82)
Game time: 7:10

The Rangers have never faced Martes.
How the Astros hit against Cashner.

    • dearmidol

Pretty amazing turn of events. Might be an unfortunate one.

      • WhoKnowscs

Yeah, I guess some would like to go back to writing the season off and shipping out half the team for unproven prospects.

      • JacobMcCandles

        AGREE 100%

  • SABERMETRICS MASTER

If Odor starts hitting as we expected him to do, Rangers will be a fun team to watch. I just hope Bannister don’t overreact and move him out of the 7th spot for a while.

  • Ruffknuckles

Really liked the way Banni handled the BP last night. Given the opportunity he would’ve probably relieved Kela with Dyson. Fortunately that opportunity is no longer available.

    • dearmidol

Sometimes you have to take away his matches to keep him from setting the kitchen on fire.

    • SABERMETRICS MASTER

I did too. Kela was struggling and he did not allow him to fail.

I’m glad Bush was able to close the game without any drama.

    • WhoKnowscs

What day did they finally trade Dyson? Wednesday? They are 5-1 since that day.

  • SABERMETRICS MASTER

I was truly impressed with the quality of pitches Peacock delivered yesterday. This guy is tough to hit. He kept the ball down in the zone all the time and had everyone guessing.

Martinez kept us in the game as well.

Great pitching matchup last night and great game !!!

    • elkaba

LOL, who could have predicted anyone using “great pitching matchup” in the same sentence with Martinez? What a world!

  • dearmidol

My internet was out most of the night last night, which means my TV wasn’t working, which means I didn’t watch much of the game. I was able to follow it on my phone but even then it was spotty. ATT Uverse is really not good.

    • GoRangers23

We had that for about two weeks one time. The entire time, I called it StUpid Verse. It was when they first started, and it was horrible. They keep trying to convince us to give it another chance.

      • dearmidol

They always have one BS excuse or another.

    • elkaba

We’ve been looking at dumping TV altogether and going with streaming. Some intriguing possibilities lately. Key is having great internet though.

      • JacobMcCandles

U verse is the best IMO

      • Straxusd

Go with Sling TV and you will get foxsports Southwest and FS1 and a couple of others for $30/month. You can add the others when playoff time rolls around.

      • azrangerfan

Went to streaming and installed a tv antenna about 2 years ago. Also have sling tv. Get all the local channels from over the air. The only thing we missed for awhile was not having a DVR. DVRs are now available for over the air broadcast, I just don’t feel the need for one now. I can’t see myself ever paying for cable or satellite again. Glad we did it.

        • Straxusd

That is what we did. Over the air for locals and sling.tv

          • azrangerfan

I forgot to mention we also have Netflix. We watch more netflix than anything.

          • JacobMcCandles

Once you get on Netflix you are spoiled😎

  • Gregor_S

Rangers are now only 10 behind Houston in the loss column or, as it’s usually described, the “all-important” loss column. (Not sure I’ve seen the phrase “all-important” used in any other context.)

    Piece of cake.

    • JacobMcCandles

      Let them eat cake!!

  • Rollie Fingerbangers

Dude we face today has an ERA near 10. Its about time we faced a replacement level scrub pitcher. Too bad it took until June 14

    • WhoKnowscs

Too bad Rangers typically make replacement scrubs with high ERAs look like Cy Young.

      • Nashvillecat66

        Couldn’t have said it better.
For me, it’s the most frustrating thing about this team.

      • Rollie Fingerbangers

        Ha!

    • WhoKnowscs

I don’t remember the Astros being all sad that they didn’t have to face Hamels who was scratched just before the game during his bullpen session. Also, we didn’t have days notice like the Astros.

    • JacobMcCandles

Astros #1 pitching prospect. First MLB start….big fella

      • Rollie Fingerbangers

I thought their no 1 pitching prospect was Musgrave

        • JacobMcCandles

He has been up last 2 yrs

    • dearmidol

Sometimes that’s a bad thing. We’ve never faced him before.

  • JacobMcCandles

Lost 8 of 10..win 10 in a row, lose 5 of 6, win 5 in a row. 500 team is pretty accurate 105.3. Talking about whether Roogie gets thrown at tonight….I think he would like it😎

    • dearmidol

Why, because he hit two home runs? Or did he do some showboating after he hit one?

      • JacobMcCandles

Little showboating…more Stro embarrassment I think😎 but McCann is not to be messed with..not Butista

        • Straxusd

Lol McCann would take the Bautista soulpunch like Bautista did. Look confused and start backpedaling

          • JacobMcCandles

Haha…don’t think so…big fella backed down Gomez and Machado…prob turn Roogie into a pretzel

        • calntom

McCann might be wise to leave the mask on…..

          • JacobMcCandles

$$$ on the big fella over the little fella

Go ahead and throw at him . . . We’ll take the free base runner.

    Odor at yrs end….255 27 80. Hasn’t walked in 3 wks

  • GoRangers23
  • Straxusd

I hope Odor is back and Gomez comes back swinging and replaces a dead bat in the lineup. If hamels comes back strong, I think we can keep it rolling if offense stays conscious.

  • JacobMcCandles

Ramping up the excitement to the game could be some fireworks…last game of series…be hard to ask a rookie in his first game to throw at someone. Houston radio announcers calling these games exhibition. Banny says yeah we can compete with them now?? Sweep first Banny.

MLB saying Choo trying to coax the Stros into fighting by pulling out on inside pitches.to manipulate the Umps…isn’t that part of the gm? I call it gamesmanship…and if memory serves I think Choo has gotten a ton of HBP in his career…and Roogie and the previous dustups…good day to be here

    • elkaba

They already threw at Choo enough for the whole series. What more do they want?

      • JacobMcCandles

        MLB comment not mine

  • calntom

What is the stros/rangers series record this year? How many games left?

    • JacobMcCandles

TX wins the boot….Stros win tha Division😎

    • WhoKnowscs

6-3 in favor of the astros with 10 games left.

BAH!!!! Stop trying to put Odor 5th.

      • WhoKnowscs

        Also . . . Elvis doesn’t need a day off for Profar.

      • JacobMcCandles

On the climb back….have to have him to succeed…

        • WhoKnowscs

He doesn’t belong at 5 . . . he belongs at 7, stop trying to make him something he isn’t. He is not a cleanup protector. Putting him lower and having him succeed only to put him at 5 because you just can’t get over not having him 5 is insanity. And by “you” I mean Banny.

          • WhoKnowscs

OH at he’s hit .221 at 5 and .333 at 7 this season.

          • JacobMcCandles

Watch and learn…did you not get my scouting report?

          • WhoKnowscs

Doesn’t matter, stop trying the change what worked because of an incessant need to meddle.

          • JacobMcCandles

Last I knew Banny makes the lineup not me… But u r continuing to miss the pic…WE NEED HIM TO SUCCEED

          • WhoKnowscs

And he was succeeding finally . . . at 7.

          • SABERMETRICS MASTER

Banny obtained his managerial degree from Trump University who also offered degrees in baseball scouting.

            LOLA

          • JacobMcCandles

            Build the wall

          • SABERMETRICS MASTER

I have no clue why the team didn’t call Drew Robinson instead of Profar.
That kid can play any position you ask him to play.

Profar can only play the infield and can’t hit MLB pitching.

Time to give Robinson a chance to shine.

            (((( YOUR THOUGHTS? ))))

          • WhoKnowscs

they are trying to pump Profar up for a trade, but since he is @#$@ it’s not working.

          • SABERMETRICS MASTER

Exactly my point. He was doing much better in AAA.
Let him shine in RR and make him a trade bait.

          • dearmidol

I think they are giving Profar his last chance to succeed before ridding they system of him.

          • SABERMETRICS MASTER

One year in AAA will not hurt Profar but help raise his value IMO.
Rangers are proving the baseball world that Profar can’t hit MLB pitching IMO.

          • WhoKnowscs

All they are proving is he’s too timid, How many strike threes has he sort of squatted down and stared at?

          • elkaba

I think that ship already sailed. When he said publicly last season he intended to be playing SS for SOME MLB team this season.

          • JacobMcCandles

            Stole my line🏆👍😎

          • WAR-time Consigliere

Saying publicly when he and Elvis have the same agent doesn’t make sense

          • JacobMcCandles

Agreed…unless they though Profar could build his stock..but that ship has passed

    • WAR-time Consigliere

So when Gomez returns this weekend does Hoying stay in CF vs righties with Gomez in LF?

      • JacobMcCandles

        Go…full time

        • WAR-time Consigliere

I would assume Profar or Rua get sent down or will it be Hoying?

      • possumrld

        Nooooooo!

  • JacobMcCandles

Don’t wish injuries…but Houston has now put Reddick on DL and a BP Guy Gustave on 60 day…called up Fisher…their best offensive prospect ….good news Hamels ahead of schedule maybe b4 AS BREAK

  • WhoKnowscs

1 more vs Astros, a day off, and then 20 days with a game every day, a day off, and a 3 game series before the ASB

    • Rod Harper

The stretch from hell begins! I hope the Rangers don’t end up limping into the All-Star Break!

      • JacobMcCandles

It really is the all time dynamic…def got a shot at WC half game out..but…

  • TD30
    • Ruffknuckles

Why is the best player on the team so far this year being substituted by the worst with an off day tomorrow?

      • azrangerfan

That question is just way to much to answer. Another words only Banny knows what Banny knows?

      • TD30

Bani and his stupid need to change the line up every damn day

      • elkaba

I’ve given up looking for logical answers to any of these questions. It’s a mad, mad, mad, mad world, even on the baseball field.

  • elkaba

Well my venture into streaming TV was a big bust. Can’t do it with Spectrum. But at least we now have a Roku installed so we can add streaming Netflix before Stranger Things starts up. 🙂

    • JacobMcCandles

Yayyyyyyyy…send you my list of Musts….lots of BBC OF COURSE

      • elkaba

It’s so frustrating. You save money returning adapters and spend even more to add content. Anyone who wants to know why all the stores are closing, it’s this tech stuff. Nobody has money to spend on anything any more. It’s all going to phones and internet and TV. We’ve been had…

        • JacobMcCandles

Yep…did you get the expensive roku….it’s better…also can get Netflix in the nicer hotels

          • elkaba

Got the one for 1080, whatever that means. It’s matched to the TV.

        • possumrld

One of the main reasons tech stores are closing is how they are holding onto the old mindset that they can rip everyone off on small connectors and on other such items. And Best Buy is a classic example. Go and buy a cable of some sort there, and you will likely be plunking down 25 dollars, at least. But I can usually order the same thing on Amazon for 7.99, plus shipping, and the equivalent quality as well. So if someone is making a profit selling it for 7.99 on Amazon, then Best Buy, is ripping us off big time. Because with their buying power they have to be able to buy them for less than the Amazon sellers can buy them.
Of course, since Best Buy is a walk in store, and since they have the overhead of a building to maintain and a staff to pay, and such, I don’t expect them to be able to sell them as cheaply as an Amazon seller can. But they could at least try to be reasonable about it. Like maybe charging $12.99, instead of $27.99. for a simple cable. But as far as I can tell, Best Buy is still far from being anywhere close to reasonable on most of their add on products, anyway.
So Best Buy could also bite the dust in the near future, if they don’t start changing their ways.

          • elkaba

True, I just think everyone is undervaluing the economic impact of how much people are spending on tech. gadgets. The money we used to have for clothes, vacations, car payments, etc., is all going into keeping our phones, TV, internet and other tech toys up to date.

          • possumrld

Best Buy ought to know. But I think many of these big box stores are trapped by old ways of thinking. The days are long over when if you have a big franchise store, you are the only game in town. So they need to get creative, and more competitive at the same time. These big outfits are also addicted to selling big ticket items, and gouging customers on the smaller accessories. So they won’t carry equivalent products that don’t cost a fortune in either the high tech stuff or in the accessories.
But it seems like they think people will buy their overpriced stuff anyway because they want it now. But this is becoming less and less the case, so before long Best Buy ma be gone as well. They all have big we sites though, and I think they believe this will make them more competitive. But most people are going to go to Amazon or elsewhere, if they are going to have to order something anyway.

        • azrangerfan

Yep everyone is greedy it seems. The one that really got my goat several months ago is Wells Fargo. I made a fairly large Cash deposit into my checking account, $4 or 5 grand and got a $9 service charge for making to large of a cash deposit. Needless to say I closed my accounts with WF. Go figure.

    • WhoKnowscs

Can also use Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime(instant video) with a console(Playstation/Xbox) but the Roku is definitely more simplistic to use. And Sling has a plan with FSSW. But in my experience Sling has a significant delay(As in gameday can be faster).

  • possumrld

Good points, Kev. But I really don’t know what “reality” is for this team yet. Conversely, I tend to think maybe it is the Astros who are setting back into more of a reality. I don’t think the Rangers are not as bad as as they have played at times this seaosn. But I am also yet to be fully convinced that the Astros are as good as they have played so far.
    Time will tell.

    • dearmidol

Time will tell. Truest statement of the season.

    • WhoKnowscs

I think it has a lot to do with moves JD made. Notice how many late game blow ups we’ve had since we got rid of Banny’s matches(Dyson). Bush did give up a run in a tie game, but he only had 2 outcomes. Break the tie or don’t break the tie. And it only happened once. And given the worse of the 2 it ended up being only 1 run. Not the 3-4(or more) Dyson gave up).

  • calntom

If there was a game this year so far that I would like to see the Rangers win, tonights game would be it. Nothing like a good broom job.

In the light of some of my harsher criticism’s of Yu Darvish in the past, I am tickled to death that he pitched so well last night! But i was also reminded last night after we were told Yu was going to try to “adjust” and then later seeing him throw allot more off speed pitches to great effect, and great success, of how the Rangers organization seemed bent on changing Yu to a 3 or 4 pitch pitcher, after he had been pitching only about a full seaosn.
“Establish the fastball” was the mantra. And it seemed like they wanted a Cole Hamels or another Cliff lee, instead of letting Yu be Yu. When Yu came aboard as a ranger, he was supposed to have nearly a dozen pitches he could throw effectively. Yet the Rangers seemed bent on pairing that number of pitches down to the standard 3 or 4 pitches, with the fastball being the pitch that was to be hurled by Darvish at least 50% of the time, and maybe even 60 or 70 percent of the time.
But why? And I am far from the the first to wonder this very thing, or to ask this very question. I have seen others post this thought as long as 2 years ago, which in reality is probably the reason I even noticed it.
But why take a pitcher who can throw 7 or 8 different pitches effectively in a game and try to make him just like everyone else? And by asking this question I am also acknowledging the fact Darvish is probably less than 50 percent to blame for some the struggles he has endured in the past. Because it seems to me the Rangers have continuously insisted in the past on “stripping a Ferrari down”, to make it “look and run” more like “Volks Wagon”.
Great game Yu! Just keep on doing whatever it was you were doing last night!

We’re really making this rookie that sucked his last time out work. 26 pitches through 2 innings. Maybe he’ll be like our young starters(Nick/Chi Chi). He rushes through the first one or 2 innings like a breeze. Then he hits a road block.

  • Ruffknuckles

Here come the Stros. Rangers had their chances.

    • elkaba

      • isittime

Much Better formula than striking out more than a 1/3 of the time.

  • isittime

Our guys can hit majestic home runs, but don’t ask them to at least dial up a sac fly.

    • dearmidol

I think the Rangers went two weeks without getting a sac fly this season.

  • isittime

    Ring him up

  • dearmidol

    Rangers squandered the opportunity.

    • SABERMETRICS MASTER

Everything started with Hoying swinging at those balls outside the zone.

      • elkaba

Can’t for the life of me see what everyone sees in Hoying. He looks like a career AAA player to me.

        • dearmidol

I think he is here only because of his defense. He has always been a mediocre hitter.

          • SABERMETRICS MASTER

            He had 1 week left

          • dearmidol

Right. Once Gomez comes back, Hoying is back down.

  • elkaba

    And the error…

  • von_todwin

An inherited runner scored? I’m shocked. SHOCKED!

(not that Cashner was looking like he should stay in.)

    • SABERMETRICS MASTER

If Odor catches that ground ball cleanly, Correa would not have scored

      • dearmidol

They might have gone for a double play, in which case he would have.

        • SABERMETRICS MASTER

His intention was to throw to homeplate and that’s why he missed the groundball

          • dearmidol

Yeah, then if that’s the case you’re right.

          • SABERMETRICS MASTER

At least that’s my appreciation. If you have a chance to see the replay, check Odor’s eyes looking at 3B when he was fielding the grounder.

      • von_todwin

Just getting Gameday updates. Didn’t see.

  • cookies N milf

    Great throw Hoying!!!

  • von_todwin

Actually, I take it back. 1st and 3rd with no outs and only one run scoring on questionable defense is not bad. I’d take that JJ.

  • Gregor_S

Jeffress seems to be pitching better now that he’s been rested. Time for Banny to start pitching him every day again.

  • Ruffknuckles

Read an article earlier today in The Houston Free Press that there’s a large percentage of Satanists that attend Astros games.

    • SABERMETRICS MASTER

      Jake is in attendance

      LOLA

      • Ruffknuckles

They occupy pretty much the whole section of 666.

  • dearmidol

Still plenty of time to make this happen.

    • SABERMETRICS MASTER

      Yeap

      • Gregor_S

        Nope

        • SABERMETRICS MASTER

Kevin is always jinxing the team!!

          • dearmidol

            Ha.

I said they’d make the World Series on Saturday.

  • Ruffknuckles

    Doo doo

  • dearmidol

I am going out on a limb to say Jeffress doesn’t have it tonight.

    • calntom

Happens to most of us occasionally

  • von_todwin

Well. Only one of the inherited runners scored. So there’s that. This was that first guy’s first game, right?

  • Ruffknuckles

Nice dive by Altuve. Midget faker.

    • dearmidol

      That didn’t hit him.

      • Ruffknuckles
      • SABERMETRICS MASTER

Lucroy needs to tell Bannister. Otherwise, how would he knows? Altuve had a great faked pain in that play.

      • JacobMcCandles

What??? It hit him TX getting squirrelly…threw at three tonight…win the right way

  • WhoKnowscs

Jeffress isn’t long for this team me thinks.

    • dearmidol

      He was horrible tonight.

      • Gregor_S

He was pretty good last inning, then reverted to form this inning. Though those two HRs would have been routine flies anywhere else.

Once Banny went to the BP in the 5th there was no way this could end well. Even if Jeffress hadn’t imploded the next 3 or 4 relievers would have.

      • possumrld

Jeffress, Barnett, and Hoying all need to take a trip to the farm

  • SABERMETRICS MASTER

Barnette will allow those 2 runners to score and then, will strike out every batter

  • dearmidol

The Rangers finally made the road trip.

  • dearmidol

I am making the call on McCann.

  • SABERMETRICS MASTER

This is getting ugly, I’m out !!!!!

  • dearmidol

    2-0. Uh oh

  • Ruffknuckles

It’s only the 6th inning. Plenty of time to come back.

    • Ruffknuckles

It’s only 9 runs at this point.

      • Gregor_S

No outs yet. Not sure this half inning will ever end. If it doesn’t, should really be a forfeiture for the Astros.

    • dearmidol

Yep, five here. Five next inning, we are right back in it.

  • Ruffknuckles

This team is so afraid of being over .500.

  • azrangerfan

No need to go to the BP. Time for position player to take the hill. Maybe Gallo?

  • azrangerfan

Have you heard about the new Ranger blog, similar to this one? anotherrangerk.com lol

  • Ruffknuckles

It’s still only the 6th inning. Plenty of time to come back.

    • Gregor_S

I think we will regain the lead 15-13 but then Bush will blow the save.

  • cookies N milf

On the bright side I stacked the Astros in Draft Kings tonight, going to be a lucrative evening!!!

    • dearmidol

      I’ve never done Draft Kings.

      • cookies N milf

I like it a lot, it’s pretty cool, you can deposit any amount you want and play contests for as low as $0.25. You should check it out. You can pretty much pick any pitcher going against the Rangers and you are gauranteed 7-10 strikeouts lol.

  • dearmidol

    Eleven more.

    • WhoKnowscs

But they still got 2 more innings of our pen.

  • WhoKnowscs

Oh look a meaningless Gallo Solo Homer . . . oh well, I guess stat padding is better than nothing.

  • GoRangers23

That was the longest drive home in history! When I got in the car, the inning had just started. We waited about 7-10 minutes for my son to make it to the car, then drove all the way from White Settlement to Arlington. The drive takes about 35 minutes. The inning ended as we drove into the drive way. It was excruciating!

  • cookies N milf

The game is way out of hand but what is Mazara doing?

  • JacobMcCandles

Astros put a period on the the series..TX Feeling it…

    • dearmidol

It appears the Astros got mad.

      • JacobMcCandles

        Yep

  • WhoKnowscs

Good thing I decided to watch a movie than to even bother with the game.
