This is just the kind of game the Rangers would have lost earlier in the year. They’d hop out to a lead, give it away, fold up their tent, and go home.
They’d score early then leave to avoid traffic.
But last night’s game against the Braves was satisfying in so many ways. In pure entertainment, it was one of the best games of the year.
They were down 1-0, then 2-0, then tied it 2-2 They were up 4-2, then 4-2, then were tied 4-4. The Braves scored a run in the top of the ninth. The Rangers came right back and scored a run in the bottom of the ninth.
The Braves got their zombie runner to third with one out in the tenth but couldn’t score him. The Rangers scored their zombie runner, after Corey Seager was intentionally walked, with a solid single to left by Marcus Semien.
And just like that, the Rangers pulled out the most satisfying of wins. The game saw three triples—always a thrilling play—two by Atlanta’s Michael Harris and one by Texas’s Evan Carter. It saw a runner thrown out at home to end the Braves first inning. A line drive double play to end the Rangers ninth inning.
They’ve come out of the second half a blistering 7-1, going for the sweep today. With just five days to go until the trade deadline, this team could pull off a deal that can make this second half of the season very memorable.
Even better if they continue to have games as thrilling as last night’s.
