Stepping up when needed.

Michael Helman’s 3rd career HR seals the 5-2 Texas victory over Sacramento.

If the Rangers harbor any hope of pulling off a miracle, it’s going to take guys to step up and perform at a level they aren’t used to.

Last night, Josh Jung, a major league average hitter for most of his career, found another gear and collected three hits. Jonah Heim, a career .191 hitter in the second half, defied all odds and drove in two of Texas’s five runs with a sac fly and a solo home run. And, to top it off, Michael Helman put the icing on the victory cake with a two-run homer in the seventh.

This is what it’s going to take.

It’s going to take Jack Leiter’s continued maturation on the mound, where he gave up just two runs in seven innings.

Mostly, it’s going to take a whole lot of luck.
