Milwaukee gave up a three-run homer in the top of the first. So, what do they do? They hit their own three-run homer in the bottom of the first. 

This is from a team that doesn’t use the home run ball to win games. They won the most games of any team, by the way.

The Brewers should be the model for how to build a team. They have five players who had 140 or more hits this season. By comparison the Rangers had zero. Josh Smith led the Rangers with 121 hits. 

They are a selfless collection of baseball players. A true team. They take team at-bats. Move runners over. Hit with two strikes. Hit with two outs. Bunt. Execute. Hit the fastball.

What they don’t do is swing wildly from their heels on every pitch. Which mean they win ballgames. Of course, last night, they hit three home runs to score all seven of their runs. But they wouldn’t have had the opportunity if they hadn’t done the little things right. 

Milwaukee is an easy team to root for. They’ve taken a commanding 2-0 lead in this best-of-five series over the Cubs and appear to be on a course to face the Dodgers, who have taken a commanding 2-0 lead over the Phillies in their best-of-five series. 

Here’s for scrappy baseball, getting it done when it’s called for, moving the runner over, hitting through the holes, going the other way, and all the things that makes baseball so much fun.
