A win despite the slump.

Josh Jung, who homered yesterday and had a second homer called back,
continues his bid for an All-Star Game selection and Rookie of the Year.

A win is a win. Especially one that is as badly needed as a win right now for the Rangers. They came into yesterday’s game with the Blue Jays having lost seven of nine, and in danger of losing three series in a row, which could still happen with a loss today.

But the Rangers needed a win to get out of their funk. They got the win. They didn’t really get out of their funk. The went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position, and that extends that streak of futility to 0-for-21. Three home runs sure helped the cause.

You can never look a gift horse in the mouth, and it’s great to get a win, but if the Rangers want to get back the swagger they had, they need to start making things happen and not sit back and wait for the home run.

They were getting both. The big hits, big two-out hits, then the home runs to punctuate it.

Hitting is contagious and so is lack of hitting. Get a couple guys hot and a couple more will follow. When a couple guys start pressing, a couple more do as well to try to take up the slack.

As the Rangers claw their way out of this offensive sleep, they at least have Corey Seager hot as always. And Leody Taveras and Josh Jung continue to hit as well. But the lineup is looking like a red neck’s teeth. Gaps all over the place.

They need to bunch up the hits rather than spreading them out over the innings.

What they need is one of their patented five-run innings to get the whole thing jumpstarted. Today would be a good time for that.

PROGRAMMING NOTE: DUE TO MY WIFE AND I CELEBRATING OUR 40TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY, I WILL BE OUT OF TOWN FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS STARTING TUESDAY AFTERNOON. I MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO DO REGULAR RR3 POSTS. I’LL TRY TO FOLLOW THE RANGERS AS BEST I CAN AND POST AS OFTEN AS I CAN BUT THE TIME DIFFERENCE MIGHT MAKE BOTH THINGS DIFFICULT. PLEASE CARRY ON WITHOUT ME IN MY ABSENCE.
