What’s gotten into Josh Jung? He picked up three hits for the third game in a row.
In his last seven games, in fact, Jung is 15-for-29, hitting a whopping .517, with a Hall of Fame worthy OPS of 1.257. In the second half, he’s hitting .311. That’s quite a contrast to the .237 he hit in the first half, which included a trip to Triple-A. He was even benched for a stretch in the second half.
But as more Rangers regulars have fallen to the wayside, Texas has been forced to start him and Jung has responded with his best stretch of baseball since early 2023.
Combine that with the sudden rebirth of Adolis Garcia’s bat—who’s hitting .414 since coming off the I.L., with an OPS of 1.210—and with Joc Pederson, who took the first four months of the season off but is heating up lately, putting up a .904 OPS the last month, and it’s easy to see why the Rangers have been on a roll lately.’
This was the offense they were hoping for from the beginning. It’s fun to see it finally arrive. Yes, it’s probably too late. But it’s better than watching the team wallow in self-pity because they lost Semien and Seager.
For the first time all season, the Rangers are fun to watch. It’s about time.
