Best player on the field.

The kid can hit.

It’s one thing for the hitting coach to sing Wyatt Langford’s praises. Or his manager.

But when the pitching coach walks back into the clubhouse after seeing him hit and declares, “I just saw the best player on the field,” and a whole bunch of All-Stars were on that same field, you know that’s impressive.

That’s exactly what happened after Rangers coach Mike Maddux watched Rangers prospect Wyatt Langford take batting practice yesterday.

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy admitted they came very close to putting Langford on the World Series roster after Adolis Garcia went down with injury, but at the last minute went with Travis Jankowski instead. That’s unbelievably high praise for a kid that was just drafted last June.

If Langford doesn’t make the opening day lineup, it seems a sure bet he will be on the big league club soon enough. Rangers general manager Chris Young claims that the twenty-two-year-old outfielder has a real chance to make it.

After coming off a World Series win, and now having two young, bright prospects in Evan Carter and now Wyatt Langford, the Rangers future looks brighter than it has in a long time. It’s been decades since they had even one prospect to have prolonged impact with the Rangers, let alone two.

What’s the word? Giddy.
