Failure to execute.

Playing only his second game ever in left, Josh Smith made an incredible diving catch of a ball in foul territory.

Second and third, one out in the first. No runs scored.

Second and third, one out in the sixth. Walk. Now bases loaded. No runs scored.

The Rangers simply lack the ability to take advantage of opportunities. No small ball. No manufacturing runs. No execution skills whatsoever.

Remember when the talk was whether the Rangers could get to .500? They were there, then close, then almost, then close again.

Now? They are nine games under. Nine. And falling.

What started out as a promising season has devolved into another Rangers disaster. No way should this team lose two in a row to Oakland. No way should any team lose two in a row to Oakland.

Oakland a team whose longest winning streak is three. They’re a team that’s the worst in the American League. They’re a team that’s the worst hitting team in baseball.

And, they’re a team that is on the verge of sweeping the Rangers.

This season is quickly unravelling.
