From DFA to MVP for a night.

From DFA to walk-off hero, Dustin Harris doubles home the winning run.

Five weeks ago, Dustin Harris was DFAed. The Rangers acquired Merril Kelly, Phil Maton, and Danny Coulombe and needed to make room on their forty-man roster. Harris was the odd man out.

At one time, Harris had been a valued Rangers prospect. But, like with Blaine Crimm and Justin Foscue, he never took that next step when given the chance.

When nobody claimed Harris, the Ranger re-signed him and stashed him in Triple-A.

Then, injuries hit the Rangers and rosters were allowed to expand on September 1, and Harris found himself back on the Rangers.

Last night he found himself in one of the biggest spots of his major league career. With Round Rock, ever since he was DFAed, he’d been hitting .414. He entered last night’s game as a pinch runner in the tenth inning and got an at-bat in the twelfth inning.

With two runners on in a taut, must-win, 3-3 game against the Astros, Dustin Harris laced a double to right scoring Cody Freeman, giving the Rangers a 4-3 win, and giving Dustin Harris a huge measure of redemption.

Baseball works in mysterious ways.

With Seattle losing, the Rangers pull to within a half-game of the third wild card, with Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, Evan Carter, and Adolis Garcia all on the injured list.

Baseball does, indeed, work in mysterious ways.
