In 2023, it was Evan Carter who came out of nowhere to be the Rangers savior.
Will 2025’s Evan Carter be Michael Helman?
After driving in all five runs in the Rangers 5-0 shutout over the Brewers on Monday, the twenty-nine-year-old rookie homered again on Tuesday, a two-run shot that tied the game at 3-3. The Rangers would win it 5-4.
Michael Helman is, as they say, having a moment. And it’s great to see the spotlight shine on a guy who has been forgotten, passed over, and twice DFAed this season.
His numbers against right-handed pitching are eye opening: .353 average, .450 on base, 1.115 OPS. Against lefties, he’s .188/.235/.735. Surprisingly, he has a lot more at-bats against lefties than righties, 32 versus 17.
But he’s making the most of his at-bats this year, making the most of his playing time, and carrying the Rangers on his back while Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, Evan Carter, and Adolis Garcia are out.
The Rangers still have to pull of the daunting task of catching the Mariners, still treading water at a-game-and-a-half out. But Michael Helman is doing his best to make that happen.
