If you are a major league team, a minor league team, a fantasy baseball team, or even a slow pitch softball team, and you want to beat the Texas Rangers, just throw a left-handed pitcher against them.
It doesn’t have to be a All-Star lefty. It doesn’t even need to be a good lefty. Just as long as he, or she, throws left-handed.
Sorry to mix body parts, but the total inability to hit left-handed pitching will be this team’s Achilles heel should the Rangers make the playoffs.
Chances are, if they do indeed make the playoffs, it will be as a wild card, which means they will go on the road to play two games against the higher seeded team. If that team tosses a lefthander against Texas, it’s over.
It also doesn’t help that when the Rangers face a lefty, panic mode sets in and they run out a white flag lineup.
Texas has until tomorrow at 5:00 central to find a bona fide bat that can hit left-handed pitching if it has any aspirations to make the playoffs and go deep into October.
Joc Pederson isn’t the answer. Jake Burger isn’t the answer. Rowdy Tellez isn’t the answer. Those three can’t even be accused of being able to hit right-handed pitching.
The clock is ticking, Rangers.
