Is this the year?

There are two indisputable facts about Rougned Odor. One, he is not going anywhere for four more seasons. Two, if the Rangers harbor hopes of being good enough to make the playoffs, Odor needs to hit.

His history is he has a very good July, then two other strong weeks. Last year, those outlier two weeks were the first two in September.

He hit .261 in September, with an OPS of .984 but that was off the strength of the first two weeks. From September 15 to the end of the season, Odor hit .186 with a .713 OPS.

There are two Odors.

The Rangers need the Good Odor to show up. The one who hit a towering shot off Corey Kluber in an intersquad game yesterday, a game in which Kluber dominated.

“I don’t like to talk about myself,” Odor said, “but I’m just going to tell you this: I feel really good at the plate, and I feel like what I was doing at the end of last year, I’ve brought into this year.”

Hopefully “the end of last year” he is talking about is not the end end last two weeks. It was the two weeks right before that.

Odor isn’t going anywhere. Rangers fans can only hope this is the year he figures it for good.
